Video: Chemical Weapons Warehouse Exploded in Western Aleppo

A supposed chemical weapons warehouse of Al Qaeda affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra) near the city of al-Atarib in western Aleppo exploded on April 20. According to pro-government sources, the warehouse was one of the sites where militants were arming rockets and shells with toxic materials.

Members of the notorious propaganda organization “White Helmets” reportedly recovered the bodies of at least six people killed in the explosion. Three injured persons were evacuated to nearby hospitals.

The version of the events provided by pro-militant media outlets argues that the targeted facility was belonging to a local pharmaceutical company known as “al-Khalil” and stored “baby milk” only. Pro-opposition media added that the explosion was likely caused by an improvised explosive device. Nonetheless, it remains unclear who would need to blow up a baby milk storage facility.

Over the past few months, Russia and Syria have repeatedly warned that members of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and the White Helmets, with assistance from Western intelligence, are making preparations for staging chemical attacks that would be blamed on the Assad government.

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, Horas al-Din and several other radical groups have carried out a series of attacks on positions of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) near the so-called Idlib de-escalation zone. The most successful attacks took place in al-Saraya, northern Lattakia, where 5 SAA troops were killed and in western Aleppo, where over 15 SAA soldiers died.

Additionally, pro-militant sources as well as several Kurdish outlets, linked with the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), came with a new round of speculations about supposed clashes between “Russian” and “Iranian” forces in the provinces of Aleppo and Deir Ezzor. The SAA denounced these claims as fake news.

Marine Le Pen wants Salvini to form nationalist EU group

France’s Marine Le Pen, one of the leading right-wing voices in the European Union, is throwing her political weight behind Italian hard-line Interior Minister Matteo Salvini to set up a major populist group in the EU legislature after next month’s elections.

The head of France’s National Rally party said that “we have mandated Matteo Salvini… to try to build this very big group of the Defense of European Nations” in the European parliament.

Even though right-wing populist parties sometimes have widely diverging stances on issues, Le Pen said there is more that unites them than divides them.

Currently, populist parties are spread across different groups in the legislature, such as Christian Democrat and Socialist groupings. Some, like Le Pen’s party, have long stood alone in the parliament.

Nationalist figures have often made plenty of noise in the legislature but have been sidelined when it came to wielding parliamentary power.

In recent years, however, populist and nationalist parties have made inroads in several EU nations, from Salvini’s Italy to the Hungary of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, to the rise of the right in last Sunday’s Finnish elections. And Le Pen was the presidential challenger to Emmanuel Macron in the final round two years ago.

They hope that by uniting they will be able to make their voice count in the 28-nation EU too for the first time. They are going their own way in the election campaign but hope to stand together afterward.

“We want to go further and get the (parliamentary) group which is the biggest, the strongest possible,” Le Pen said.

In the biggest crackdown of its kind in the nation’s history, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has charged 60 doctors, nurses, and pharmacists with having illegally handed out millions of prescriptions for opioids in a pattern of malpractice that fed the flames of the ongoing opioid addiction crisis.

Medical professionals throughout the industry including general practitioners, dentists, nurse practitioners, podiatrists, and orthopedic specialists have been accused of trading drugs for sex, writing prescriptions to Facebook friends in the absence of a medical exam, and even pulling teeth without a legitimate basis beyond acquiring prescriptions for pain pills.

While the methods in each case varied, prosecutors remain adamant that those who were already suffering an addiction to the opioids were given prescriptions to feed their often-deadly dependence on such drugs as oxycodone, methadone, and morphine.

The locus of the opioid prescription scandal lies largely in the Appalachia region, an area that has long struggled to cope with rampant poverty and drug addiction.

Doctors and pharmacies appear to have allowed the drugs to flow into the region without even the slightest attempt at gaining control of the situation–especially in the Western District of Tennessee, where the most individuals and doctors were charged.

More than one billion email addresses leaked by Verifications.io

Verifications.io, an email verification service, has recently been hacked resulting in the leakage of approximately 1 billion email addresses. Even though the number of leaked email addresses was estimated to be 700 million last week, it is now confirmed to exceed one billion.

The email addresses of approximately 1 billion individuals were exposed in what security professionals believe is one of the biggest email database hacks ever. Leaked personal information included names, date of birth, gender, home address, employer, and the social media accounts associated with the email addresses including Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. Also, some leaked email addresses led to the exposure of information such as credit score and personal mortgage data. Nevertheless, passwords and credit card details were not exposed, yet the leaked information included company names, company websites, yearly revenue figures, etc.

DEA Continues Mass Surveillance of Americans Phone Call Records

According to a report recently released by the Office of Inspector General of the United States Department of Justice, the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is continuing to operate its mass surveillance program which collects billions of call detail records of Americans and foreigners every day. The DEA’s mass surveillance program is known as the Hemisphere Project, but is referred to in the Inspector General’s report as Program C. The Hemisphere Project has been operating since 2006 and is a partnership between the DEA and the world’s largest telecommunications corporation, AT&T. The metadata of calls includes information such as the phone numbers, IMSI and IMEI numbers, dates and times, length of calls, and locations of callers. The DEA is able to go back over phone call metadata going back all the way to calls made in 1987.

It should be noted that the DEA is also able to access the content of many phone calls through access to NSA databases, as sharing of intelligence collected under Executive Order 12333 with domestic law enforcement agencies was expanded in January of 2017 by then-President Obama just weeks before leaving office. The Hemisphere Project is funded by the DEA and the United States Office of National Drug Control Policy, or ONDCP, and is operated by the Office of National Drug Control Policy’s enforcement program known as the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area, or HIDTA. Call detail records for all calls which pass through AT&T switches are collected for the Hemisphere Project, including call detail records of calls from other cellular providers or telecommunications networks. The bulk collection of call detail records is acquired from AT&T through a DEA administrative subpoena, which bypasses any judicial oversight.

Rumors dating to the mid-1990s claim that dozens of people connected to Bill and Hillary Clinton have died under mysterious circumstances, provoking outlandish conspiracy theories about the former president's supposed involvement in their deaths. The idea of the "Clinton Body Count," which began during Bill's presidency, reared its head again during Hillary Clinton's 2008 and 2016 presidential campaigns.

A typical chain email promoting the conspiracy theory lists over two dozen individuals who supposedly "[had] dirt on the Clintons," including former White House counselor Vince Foster, businessman James McDougal, and Susan Coleman, a law school student who allegedly had an affair with Bill Clinton. The email describes the circumstances of each person's death and advises the reader to "Pass this on. Let the public become aware of what happens to anyone who might damage the Clinton machine!"

Absurd Assumptions

The widely-circulated "Clinton Body Count" text insinuates that several dozen "friends" of the Clintons, some of whom conceivably possessed incriminating information about the former First Couple, died under "mysterious" circumstances—i.e., were secretly done away with.

In more ways than one, it's reminiscent of a similarly paranoid conspiracy theory floated during the Bush-hating 2000s, namely the notion that forces within the Bush administration secretly orchestrated the 9/11 terror attacks.
