30 years ago a firearm safety instructor sat at a bar and told me about touring the upper Midwest. He was doing training with small sheriff departments. Each of them had a story about a small plane landing in a field. Heavily armed South Americans would get out. The law, or just the rancher, would go up to the people, doing whatever they do- hoisting bales of drugs out of the plane- to demand identification, to demand that they stop their crimes. The South Americans would stop what they were doing, pull out guns and then inform the unfortunate that they were going to finish. That they were going to come back. They would say the choice was go along and get paid- they'd throw a brick of money at the American- or don't- and get shot- and they'd shoot something nearby.
It was a very uniform story, county by county, state by state.
That was 30 years ago.
My guess is that we have a great deal of military men scattered around the planet sorting out everyone else's governing problems, and we really can't do anything that would bring on a Western Hemisphere bloodbath, just yet. The Wall is more than a campaign slogan. It's a first step in preventing a war.
Plane captains keep really good maps. Not all of their maps are commercial, not all the information is published in the public square. I'd think 30+ years of poking through our air defenses and police departments, the South Americans would have a really good idea where to land troops behind our borders.
The news reports keep talking about MENA political families/ import-export families (clans) taking over Middle and South American drug cartels. The US Army has been training MENA troops for decades. This would be a big, bloody mess.

This is some big big shit.
