The medical/pharmaceutical establishment and the research pipelines beneath it are very very powerful and a lot of $$ flows through them.

They've got most(?) people convinced that no one has any idea how to maintain/improve their own health, and the only way to get "health" is to spend tons of money on establishment doctors and meds.

I firmly believe that at least 90% of good health is under each individual's control. People are brainwashed not to believe this, and therefore duck taking any responsibility for their own health.

I don't know how we wake people up to this. There are lots of good websites and info sources available, that have been around for a long time, yet the majority appears to be ignoring them.

Like with everything else, it requires a measure of independence and maturity to read, collate, digest sometimes-conflicting info and develop informed judgments that one is confident enough to act upon.
