College Speaker Says Putting a Child on a Diet is Akin to Sexual Molestation, Compares Personal Trainers to Nazis
A “fat and body positive” sex therapist who recently gave a speech at St. Olaf College in Minnesota is making waves after comparing personal trainers to Nazis and childhood diets to sexual molestation.
The speaker, Sonalee Rashatwa, made headlines in 2018 for declaring that being thin is a white supremacist beauty ideal while speaking at a college in Vermont.
“I truly believe that a child cannot consent to being on a diet the same way a child cannot consent to having sex,” Rashatwar declared at her Minnesota speech. “I experience diet culture as a form of assault because it impacts the way that I experience my body.”
Her speech on “radical fat liberation” was organized by St. Olaf College’s Wellness Center, Women’s and Gender Studies Department, and Center for Equity and Inclusion.
“Tonight we’re gonna start by talking about how to politicize our definition of body image, because often we actually get stuck thinking of it from a white supremacist lens,” Rashatwar said.
Rashatwa’s biography on her website reads, “Sonalee Rashatwar (she/they) LCSW MEd is an award-winning social worker, sex therapist, adjunct lecturer, and grassroots organizer. Based in Philly (licensed in NJ, and PA license is pending), she is a fat queer non-binary therapist working as a sexual violence crisis counselor, specializing in treating sexual trauma, body image issues, racial or immigrant identity issues, and South Asian family systems, while offering fat and body positive sexual healthcare.”
The self-described “Fat Sex Therapist” went on to say, “We should be critical of the use of science and the production of knowledge to continue promoting this idea that certain bodies are fit, able, and desirable…is it my fatness that causes my high blood pressure, or is it my experience of weight stigma?”
“She then connected the science suggesting that obesity is unhealthy to Nazism, saying that ‘fatphobic’ science is ‘often actually eugenic science….eugenic science is Nazi science,'” Campus Reform reports.
“I do not think it’s surprising that the man who shot up Christchurch, New Zealand was also a fitness instructor,” Rashatwar said. After making this claim, she added that the shooting is “a clear communication that there’s still an idealized body. Nazis really love this idea of an idealized body, and so it makes a lot of sense to me that a fitness instructor…might also think about an idealized body in this thin white supremacist way.”

Philadelphia pastor among 16 men netted in New Jersey child predator investigation
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) – A Philadelphia minister is among 16 men arrested in a New Jersey child predator sting operation.
The New Jersey attorney general's office announced the arrests during "Operation Home Alone" during a press conference Wednesday.
Roger Arroyo, 37, was charged for allegedly luring kids through social media apps.
Arroyo is a traveling minister from Philadelphia.
He faces charges including second degree luring, third-degree attempted debauching morals of a child and fourth-degree attempted criminal sexual contact.
The Bergen County prosecutor's office is prosecuting the case.
The Attorney General's Office working in conjunction with authorities in Bergen County shared more details about the major statewide investigation that also netted a police officer, high school teacher along with Uber and Lyft drivers.
The underage "children" were, in fact, undercover officers.
Most of the defendants were arrested when they arrived at a residence in Bergen County, where they allegedly expected to find their victim home alone.
Instead, investigators said they found law enforcement officers prepared to arrest them and process any evidence seized.
"The 16 men we arrested allegedly used social media to stalk victims they believed were vulnerable children who could be sexually exploited. Fortunately, their victims were really undercover officers prepared to put them in handcuffs," said Attorney General Grewal.
"Parents need to know that the profiles of underage girls and boys we posted on social media to catch these offenders could easily have been profiles of their own children, who might also be targeted by predators on chat apps and popular gaming sites," he continued.
"Our message to parents with Operation Home Alone is to be on guard. Our message to child predators is law enforcement is working overtime to find you and arrest you."

Russian Chief Of General Staff: Military Phase Of Syrian Conflict Is Over. 3,000 Civilians Killed By US-led Coalition
The military phase of the Syrian conflict has ended, Gen. Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia, said at the Moscow International Security Conference on April 24.
“Currently, the military phase of the conflict is over. Within two years, with the Russian support, the collapse of the Syrian state was prevented, and most of the country’s territory was returned to the control of government forces,” the Russian commander said, according to Interfax.
Gen. Gerasimov added that that all the conditions needed for a political settlement and a reconciliation process in Syria have been set. He also stressed that there will be no more “large-scale military operations” in the war-torn country.
The Russian commander revealed that the support of Russian forces has allowed the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) to liberate 1,400 settlements and 8 oil and gas field throughout Syria. The Russian military campaign in Middle Eastern country began in mid-2015.
Commenting on the US-led coalition operations in Syria, Gen. Gerasimov said that at least 3,000 people, including 1,400 women and children, were killed by the coalition. These numbers are close to those provided by independent groups, such as AirWars.
While Syria will not likely witness any large-scale battles from now on, the country is still far from being stable. Last week, more than 50 Syrian service members were killed by terrorist groups. The northeastern part of the country is also witnessing unprecedented tension between Turkey and local Kurdish forces.

Navy SEALs were warned by commanders not to report Iraq war crimes
Commander said reporting war crimes would cost them their careers
US war crimes in Iraq in general are a well-substantiated fact. Navy SEALs say they saw some “shocking” things, which other SEALs kill children with sniper rifles, spraying civilian neighborhoods with machine gun fire, etc.
Seeing such things was par for the course, in Iraq, but talking about it was another thing entirely. Several platoon members took the matter of war crimes by their platoon chief to troop commanders. They were immediately rebuked.
Not only did the commander tell them not to report the crimes to him, he warned them that talking about the war crimes at all would jeopardize their careers. War crimes are meant to be seen, but not heard about.
It was expected this would be the end of it, but the SEALs went around the commander, and to higher ups in the Navy that were not directly tied to the SEALs. This quickly led to a court-martial for the platoon chief.
It’s broader than just the one platoon chief. The court-martial is quickly delving deeply into the underlying culture of the SEALs. That culture encouraged both the war crimes and silence about them.

Syrian President’s Account Blocked on Instagram
Ban follows recent Instagram crackdown on Iranian Revolution Guards
When Instagram started banning members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards from its platform, they explained that they were legally obliged to under US law because the Trump Administration declared the guards a “foreign terrorist organization.”
Less clear is what happened to the official account of the office of the Syrian presidency, as Syrian officials issued a statement Tuesday claiming Instagram had blocked that account without notice and without explanation.
This is potentially a much bigger deal than the Iranian accounts, which were personal accounts of members of Iran’s military. The Syrian account is an official account run by the Assad government, and often used for official statements to the public and the international community.
Syrian officials speculated this is part of a “growing siege” the US is trying to impose on Syria as the war moves closer to ending, calling it a “soft war” being waged instead.

US & Its Afghan Trainees Now Killing More Civilians than the Taliban
The Trump administration has increasingly relied on bombing missions in an attempt to turn the tide in Afghanistan, where the Taliban has been able to gain more and more land under its control in recent years.
KABUL, AFGHANISTAN — For the first time in recorded history, the U.S. and the Afghan government, whose forces are trained by Americans, killed more civilians than did the Taliban in the first quarter of 2019, according to a United Nations report. Increased bombing campaigns by the U.S. and increasingly reckless search operations by pro-government forces have fueled the trend reversal.
While the U.S. war in Afghanistan was bloodiest in its infancy, little data is available until 2009, when the UN started keeping track of civilian casualties and the U.S. started accounting for the bombs and munitions it drops on the country.
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) says it is “concerned” with “significant increases in civilian casualties from aerial and search operations, which drove an overall increase in civilian casualties by Pro-Government Forces.”

Human Rights Watch Report Reveals Major Free-Speech Impact of Anti-BDS Movement
Human Rights Watch has been subjected to intense backlash by Israel and its supporters, including a number of state governments, for its role in publicizing the home rental company Airbnb’s operations in the illegally occupied West Bank.
Seventy-eight percent of Americans live in states that have laws or policies against boycotting Apartheid Israel or Israeli settlements, which are illegal under international law, according to a new report from Human Rights Watch (HRW). The report details the immense price Americans pay when exercising their free speech via their purchasing power to push back against human-rights abuses by Israel.
HRW further breaks down the number of states and which kinds of laws they have on the books:
Twenty-seven states have adopted laws or policies that penalize businesses, organizations, or individuals that engage in or call for boycotts against Israel. The laws or policies in 17 of those states explicitly target not only companies that refuse to do business in or with Israel, but also those that refuse to do business in Israeli settlements. Some states whose laws do not explicitly apply to settlements have also penalized companies that cut settlement ties.”
Andrew Prasow, HRW’s deputy U.S. advocacy director, said:
States should encourage, not sanction, companies that avoid contributing to rights abuses….
States with anti-boycott laws are effectively telling companies that if you do the right thing and disentangle yourselves from settlement abuses, you can’t do business with us.”

By not extending these waivers for “China and India and U.S. treaty allies Japan, South Korea and Turkey” the administration is putting key alliances and relationships into great jeopardy.
It should be remembered that Japan’s bombing of Pearl Harbor (and subsequent U.S. entry into WW2) was predicated on the illegal blockade of oil and gas imports to that energy deficient nation.

There is great speculation about the “Deal of the Century” for the Middle East, about which very little is known. What is known is that the Trump administration formulated the plan basically through bilateral talks with the Israeli government, as the Palestinian Authority has refused to talk to the Trump administration since the relocation of the U.S. embassy from occupied Jaffa (Tel Aviv) to occupied Jerusalem.
The release of the plan has been delayed: first until after the Israeli election and now until sometime in the summer. None of the individuals tasked with formulating the plan have expertise in the Middle East, although in Washington, D.C., strong advocacy on behalf of the Israeli occupation is often counts as a substitute.
This plan will be the latest attempt by a U.S. administration to resolve the Arab-Israeli conflict — once and for all. There was the Nixon administration’s famous Rogers’ Plan (named after Secretary of State William Rogers, who later resigned after complaining about National Security Advisor Henry Kissinger’s usurpation of his authority).

After 1967, a great part of the success of the Hamas/Muslim Brotherhood was due to their activities among the refugees of the Gaza Strip. The cornerstone of the Islamic movements success was an impressive social, religious, educational and cultural infrastructure, called Da’wah, that worked to ease the hardship of large numbers of Palestinian refugees, confined to camps, and many who were living on the edge.
“Social influence grew into political influence,” first in the Gaza Strip, then on the West Bank, said an administration official who spoke on condition of anonymity.
According to ICT papers, Hamas was legally registered in Israel in 1978 by Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, the movement’s spiritual leader, as an Islamic Association by the name Al-Mujamma al Islami, which widened its base of supporters and sympathizers by religious propaganda and social work.
According to U.S. administration officials, funds for the movement came from the oil-producing states and directly and indirectly from Israel. The PLO was secular and leftist and promoted Palestinian nationalism. Hamas wanted to set up a transnational state under the rule of Islam, much like Khomeini’s Iran.

Israeli officials who served in Gaza disagree on how much their own actions may have contributed to the rise of Hamas. They blame the group’s recent ascent on outsiders, primarily Iran. This view is shared by the Israeli government. “Hamas in Gaza was built by Iran as a foundation for power, and is backed through funding, through training and through the provision of advanced weapons,” Mr. Olmert said last Saturday. Hamas has denied receiving military assistance from Iran.
Arieh Spitzen, the former head of the Israeli military’s Department of Palestinian Affairs, says that even if Israel had tried to stop the Islamists sooner, he doubts it could have done much to curb political Islam, a movement that was spreading across the Muslim world. He says attempts to stop it are akin to trying to change the internal rhythms of nature: “It is like saying: ‘I will kill all the mosquitoes.’ But then you get even worse insects that will kill you…You break the balance. You kill Hamas you might get al Qaeda.”
When it became clear in the early 1990s that Gaza’s Islamists had mutated from a religious group into a fighting force aimed at Israel — particularly after they turned to suicide bombings in 1994 — Israel cracked down with ferocious force. But each military assault only increased Hamas’s appeal to ordinary Palestinians. The group ultimately trounced secular rivals, notably Fatah, in a 2006 election supported by Israel’s main ally, the U.S.

In Gaza, Israel hunted down members of Fatah and other secular PLO factions, but it dropped harsh restrictions imposed on Islamic activists by the territory’s previous Egyptian rulers.

The Muslim Brotherhood, led in Gaza by Sheikh Yassin, was free to spread its message openly. In addition to launching various charity projects, Sheikh Yassin collected money to reprint the writings of Sayyid Qutb, an Egyptian member of the Brotherhood who, before his execution by President Nasser, advocated global jihad. He is now seen as one of the founding ideologues of militant political Islam.
Mr. Cohen, who worked at the time for the Israeli government’s religious affairs department in Gaza, says he began to hear disturbing reports in the mid-1970s about Sheikh Yassin from traditional Islamic clerics. He says they warned that the sheikh had no formal Islamic training and was ultimately more interested in politics than faith. “They said, ‘Keep away from Yassin. He is a big danger,'” recalls Mr. Cohen.
Instead, Israel’s military-led administration in Gaza looked favorably on the paraplegic cleric, who set up a wide network of schools, clinics, a library and kindergartens. Sheikh Yassin formed the Islamist group Mujama al-Islamiya, which was officially recognized by Israel as a charity and then, in 1979, as an association. Israel also endorsed the establishment of the Islamic University of Gaza, which it now regards as a hotbed of militancy.

Now that Iran has designated the US military as a terrorist organization in response to the US declaring Iran’s Revolutionary Guards a terrorist group, it would be only fitting for the mullahs to offer a bounty for info on donors to the war party political class in the United States, in particular those calling for attacking Iran.
The Iranians might want to start with casino magnate Sheldon Adelson. In addition to donating millions to politicos who have sworn loyalty to Israel, Adelson famously called for nuking Iran.
Imagine the response if Hassan Rouhani called for nuking the US (an impossibility, of course, as Iran does not have nukes, unlike the US and Israel).
Considering the history of Israel and its use of political assassination, it is more than likely the outing of Hezbollah donors will result in murder. Normally, any such assassination would be considered terrorism, but the propaganda media in the US doesn’t report it that way.
Hezbollah’s track record on terror is largely speculative. There is no evidence the group kidnapped the president of the American University in Beirut, Davis S. Dodge, or is there conclusive evidence it attacked the US embassy in Beirut or truck bombed a US military barracks in Lebanon. A number of other murders, bombings, and airplane hijackings have been attributed to Hezbollah, again with scant evidence. However, for the neocons, evidence is not required. Big Lies suffice.
History is, of course, left out of the equation. Hezbollah was formed after Israel invaded Lebanon (to steal its water) and began imprisoning and torturing Shi’a Muslims, most notoriously at the Khiam detention center (see this Amnesty International report on the torture and ill-treatment of detainees at the Khiam facility).
Hezbollah is now an integral component of the Lebanese government and removing it wholesale from politics will prove to be impossible short of killing just about every Shi’a in Lebanon.
I believe this is what Israeli Major General Amir Eshel was talking about when he said the innocent will pay for Hezbollah resistance to Israeli plans in Lebanon.
The Israelis seem to believe killing thousands of civilians will turn the population against Hezbollah. Instead, it will strengthen the resolve of the Lebanese people to resist Israeli invasion and occupation.

Amazon and Facebook Listed Among the Dozen Most Dangerous Workplaces
The National Council for Occupational Safety and Health (COSH) today released its annual “dirty dozen” list of employers operating some of the most dangerous workplaces in America, and Amazon topped the list for the second year running. Among the newcomers, Facebook has now earned a spot on the list.
Specifically, COSH cites six fatalities since last year’s “dirty dozen”—three of whom were crewing Atlas Air flight 3591, which crashed in late February. Two other individuals were killed by a collapsing warehouse wall at a facility in Baltimore during a storm, while a sixth fell while in the process of constructing a fulfillment center in California this January.
On a press call this afternoon, David-Jamel Williams, a former Amazon warehouse picker, says he witnessed workers “pushed to the brink of exhaustion” and those who spoke up were “pressured to be quiet.” As a result of the crushing quotas, Williams claimed a box containing chemicals was improperly stowed in a bin which spilled onto his face, injuring his eyes. He also claims he was recently fired for negative unpaid time-off balance—part of Amazon’s unusual time-tracking system.
The overwhelming majority of companies that make the “dirty dozen” list secured their placement due to injuries, assaults, harassment, and fatalities on the job—the sorts of things that typically fall under OSHA’s purview. (COSH estimates OSHA—which only has 875 inspectors on payroll—would need 158 years to inspect all US workplaces.) XPO Logistics, for instance, landed among this year’s infamous honorees for the half dozen women who suffered miscarriages in its overheated warehouses. After workers filed over two dozen complaints with the EEOC over harassment, McDonald’s also earned a slot on COSH’s shitlist.
But in a surprise move, COSH opted to also include Facebook, as well as Cognizant, Accenture and two other firms who supply contract labor to the social media giant. Marcy Goldstein-Gelb, a director at COSH, said these agencies are “co-responsible” with Facebook for exposing content moderators to disturbing content which has led to some workers experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder. The practice of dumping this emotionally scarring work on contractors has been uncovered over and over and over, most recently by The Verge, and has been used by a number of platforms. According to Goldstein-Gelb, Facebook made the list instead of YouTube or Twitter (for example) because workers have repeatedly spoken up on their own about the impact reviewing Facebook content has had on their mental well-being.
In spite of appearances, the “dirty dozen” list’s purpose isn’t simply to name and shame. “We don’t just want to hammer at companies,” Goldstein-Gelb was sure to note, “we want to see change.” She praised recent moves by hardware giant Lowes, which made the list last year for its sale of paint strippers and other products containing methylene chloride—something it’s since vowed to cease carrying.
