Historically, it was widely observed throughout Ireland, Scotland and the Isle of Man. In Irish the name for the festival day is Lá Bealtaine ([lˠaː ˈbʲalˠtˠənʲə]), in Scottish Gaelic Là Bealltainn ([lˠaː ˈpjaulˠtɪɲ]) and in Manx Gaelic Laa Boaltinn/Boaldyn.
