I know that the Styx song is NOT about Barry.
Barry is not a cool outlaw kind of guy who only breaks rules that were put up to be in people's way (the mythology of Robin Hood types, that guy who shows up at the bonfire on his dirt bike cross and then, after, zooms off into the forest and then some one like 'Boss Hogg' says
"I hates those Pepe boys!"
sounds too much like a car parts advertisement.
For Bumbles I'd have a theme song of a grifter, like Kid Creole 'Cher Chez l'femme'
we can look for l'femme, however, and with Barry, there might not be one near by.
stories of non-heroes don't always end up as song lyric themes.
Barry don't be a hero? that one doesn't apply.
Coppacabanna?
Marty Robbin's El Paso?
Me and My Uncle (with lyrics by JPB and sung by Bobby (JPB's musical partner).
songs about Barry?
Everytime I think 'maybe this song is about him' I listen and it's not really.
Maybe "I will survive" is the spirit of people who have dealt with the Barry's of the world screwing it up for everyone else, coming in, making a big deal out of little things, driving wedges between people, and then walking away.
maybe Hangman? but even in that the character is sympathetic.
I had read once that Barry likes the song 'Give me Shelter' song by the same group that does that one that POTUS plays at the end of his rallys "You can't always get what you want"
but nothing comes to mind for him, as a theme song, that doesn't also present someone who might be wrongfully accused, or is just not in the spirit of how we feel about what they did to us for all those years.
People don't tend to write songs about that kind of person, or if they do the songs don't get to become popular.
or not well known.
Ya, Barry just isn't good inspiration for world class lyrics
Maybe something like Mr. Charlie, another Grateful Dead song. But that is about Charlie, the well known one who died recently and do we really think that Barry is that bad?
I often wonder if he were, he's clueless and bit jaded. But is a cold blooded and murderous too? or just a stupid puppet clown kind of mock-up of an evil-clown.
Ah, the singer, crooner, if you will Frank Z. had a song I think titled "bobby brown' about a narcisscist who decided he 'so cute' and goes gay and I think has a relationship with a vaccuum cleaner?
I didn't write it, folks.
I always maintained that Zappa is far better as music when you don't understand the lyrics.
but Zappa may have written lyrics describing a Barry.
"Hello people I'm Barry Brown . . . "
wow that's just too appropo and maybe a bit . . . inciting.
I'd considered that Hank William's 'Your Cheatin' Heart' might be about Barry, but the singer seems to feel that redemptive sadness will effect his ex, and in the case of Barry, he seems to lack empathy like that, like he's never actually been sad about anything, or regreted anything that he's ever done. a person without a sense of regret or remorse, a narcisscisst who never is off message singing a one note scale 'mee mee mee mee'.
and maybe that is why you don't have songs written about narcisscissts so much, because you need more notes than just one.
