#1. Forget about your ex. This is paramount. Destroy any lingering attachments.
#2. If you are good with cameras and near LA - and this is the hardest part - you might have to swallow your pride at least on the surface a little bit and take that 20 bucks an hour job doing photography. You NEED to have a job that applies to your skill set.
#3. As far as dealing with people go, remember to pick and choose your battles. In your job application, speak with confidence but also seek out applications from companies that are in need of workers.
#4. Being black in CA is actually not easy - mexicans hate your ass, asians hate your ass, whites flat out hate you for everything (understandable but you are you). You need to find a way to save money to get your photography equipment back and get things rolling.
#5. You DO have a mode of transportation you have access to - so that's good. Keep that running as long as possible.
#6. If you are fine with sales, I would HIGHLY recommend a job at, say, a cell phone store. I can pick out some indirect retailers that you can make 2-3k after taxes even in CA.
#7. For car jobs and flipping, often all that is required is that you know your way around cars. You pick out mechanics specials on CL, drag it back home, and fix it up. Buy for $400, flip for $1500.
etc.
Let me know if you are interested in the cell phone store route. It is grinding, but easy enough if you can tough it out for 3-6 months while you save up money to get the photography equipment back and begin applying for jobs in LA.
