Donald J. Trump

@realDonaldTrump

Spoke to Saudi Arabia and others about increasing oil flow. All are in agreement. The California tax on gasoline is causing big problems on pricing for that state. Speak to your Governor about reducing. Economic numbers, 3.2% GDP for what is often worst quarter, looking good!

California Politicians Hiked Gas Tax, Now Demand Investigation Into State's $4 Per Gallon Gas Prices

As lieutenant governor, Gavin Newsom supported a 2017 bill increasing the state's gas taxes. When running for governor in 2018, he opposed a ballot initiative that would have repealed that same increase. It's 2019, and Newson, now the state's governor, is demanding an investigation into why the state's gas prices are so high.

On Tuesday, the governor sent a letter to the California Energy Commission (CEC) asking that the state agency investigate the Golden State's roughly $4.03 per gallon gas prices, currently the highest in the country (and well above the national average of $2.86 per gallon).

"Independent analysis suggests that an unaccounted-for price differential exists in California's gas prices and that this price differential may stem in part from inappropriate industry practices," wrote Newsom in his letter to the CEC. "These are all important reasons for the Commission to help shed light on what's going on in our gasoline market."

Newsom is not alone in wanting answers to this difficult head-scratcher.

In January, 19 state legislators—17 of whom had voted in favor of that 2017 gas tax increase, while the other two had only entered office in 2018—sent a letter to State Attorney General Xavier Becerra demanding that the state's Department of Justice (DOJ) investigate the "unexplained gasoline surcharge" that was estimated to cost Californian families $1,700 a year.

John Brennan blasts Trump's 'sociopathic ramblings,' denies participating in a 'coup'

Former CIA Director John Brennan pushed back Friday on President Trump's charge that he knew about or participated in an attempt to overthrow the American government.

"I don't think it's surprising at all that we continue to hear the sociopathic ramblings of Mr. Trump claiming that there was this effort to try to prevent him from being elected or to unseat him," he told MSNBC's Hallie Jackson.

Brennan was reacting to comments Trump made during an interview with Sean Hannity on Thursday night.

Trump specifically criticized Brennan, along with former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, former FBI Director James Comey, and former Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe, in the fiery interview.

His comments followed the release of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report which stopped short of accusing the president of either obstruction of justice or collusion with Russia.

Brennan added he welcomed further investigation into his and other officials' conduct while they served in government. "I've testified in front of Congress … Absolutely, I'll do it again," he said.

Brennan also disputed Sen. Rand Paul's, R-Ky., claim that he "insisted that the unverified and fake Steele dossier be included in the Intelligence Report."

Journalist Bob Woodward similarly promoted the idea that the CIA pushed to include the Steele dossier in the intelligence community assessment surrounding Russian election interference.

"That's absolutely incorrect and 180 degrees from the truth. It was CIA that was pushing not to have it included and not to be taken into account at all in that intelligence community assessment.

Facebook faces new investigation from New York attorney general as it braces for FTC fine

Facebook is coming under scrutiny by the New York state attorney general’s office, which launched an investigation into the social media company and its unauthorized harvesting of email address books from 1.5 million users.

New York Attorney General Letitia James announced the investigation Thursday after the company revealed last week it “unintentionally” uploaded email contacts from the 1.5 million users without their consent.

The company, based in Menlo Park, Calif., said the data was collected when users created their accounts and went through its email password verification process. Facebook reassured those impacted that their contacts were not shared and that the information would be deleted.

Corbyn rejects invite to Trump state dinner, slams May for ‘kowtow’ to US government

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said he won’t attend the upcoming state dinner with US President Donald Trump when he visits Britain, adding that the UK should not be ‘rolling out the red carpet for the US president.

Corbyn released a statement revealing that he has turned down an invitation to the June event. “Theresa May should not be rolling out the red carpet for a state visit to honour a president who rips up vital international treaties, backs climate change denial and uses racist and misogynist rhetoric,” he said.
