Brazil Must Not Become A "Gay Tourism Paradise," Bolsonaro Says

South America's favorite "out and proud" homophobe Jair Bolsonaro - who was once labeled a "very dangerous human" by NYC Mayor and pioneering LGBTQ activist Bill de Blasio - rankled members of Brazil's LGBTQ community on Friday when he warned that Brazilians must now allow their country to become a "gay tourism paradise."

Bolsonaro, who has proudly declared himself a homophobe and has a long history of controversial remarks. to back that up, told a group of reporters during a breakfast meeting in Brasilia that he had no qualms with sex tourism in Brazil, so long as it remained between a man and a woman, as God intended. He added that ending the scourge of 'gay tourism' was vital for preserving his country's family values.

"If you want to come here and have sex with a woman, go for your life," Bolsonaro reportedly told journalists in the capital, Brasília. "But we can’t let this place become known as a gay tourism paradise. Brazil can’t be a country of the gay world, of gay tourism. We have families," Bolsonaro said, according to local media reports cited by the Guardian.

The president's comments immediately ignited a backlash among the LGBTQ community, as LGBTQ activists slammed him for inciting hatred and violence.

"This is not a head of state – this is a national disgrace," said David Miranda, a left-wing congressman and LGBT activist. Miranda added that the president's comments endangered gay people by “putting a target on their backs”, while simultaneously promoting the sexual exploitation of Brazilian women.

Renan Quinalha, a São Paulo-based lawyer and LGBT activist, blamed Bolsonaro for his "disastrous declaration, both from the human rights point of view and with regards to Brazil’s international image.”

Bolsonaro, a former army captain who won what many viewed as a long-shot campaign for president by running on a conservative pro-business and pro-military platform, once declared “Yes, I’m homophobic – and very proud of it."

During a 2013 interview with the British actor Stephen Fry, Bolsonaro allegedly claimed that "homosexual fundamentalists" have been brainwashing heterosexual children to "become gays and lesbians to satisfy them sexually in the future." He added that Brazilian society "doesn't like homosexuals."

Donald Trump: I’m ‘Guilty’ of Being a ‘Great President, and the Democrats Don’t Like It’

“If I’m guilty of anything, it’s that I’ve been a great president and the Democrats don’t like it,” President Donald Trump told reporters Friday after questions related to the Mueller report.

The president spoke with reporters on the South Lawn before departing the White House to give remarks at the NRA convention in Indianapolis, Indiana.

“Will you let Don McGahn testify?” one reporter asked. “Did Don McGahn lie to Mueller?”

President Trump shot back, “There has never been a president that’s been more transparent than me or the Trump administration. I let White House counsel McGahn testify. I let everybody testify.” He estimated McGahn’s testimony at 30 hours. “Obviously, McGahn thought he testified fine because he was with the administration for a long time after that,” he went on.

He referred to special counsel Robert Mueller’s report on Russian interference in the 2016 election, which confirmed the Trump campaign did not collude with Russians and even shot down outside proposals to do so.

“We get the ruling, which I knew we were going to get because I have nothing to do with Russia and the campaign. So we get a ruling: no collusion,” Trump said to the reporters. “We essentially get a ruling — no obstruction — based on the fact our great attorney general made an immediate decision there was no obstruction.”

“We gave 1.4 million documents, if you can believe such a ridiculous thing. Five hundred people testified. We had 18 people that were Trump haters. That includes Mr. Mueller; he was a Trump hater,” the president said.

A reporter jumped in to say the question related to Congress.

“With all of this — with all of this transparency, we finished ‘no collusion, no obstruction.’ Right? Then I get out. The first day, they’re saying, ‘Let’s do it again.’ And I said, ‘That’s enough.’ We got to — we have to run a country. We have a very great country to run,” the president resolved.

“Frankly, when I go through it with the House and the Senate and we have no collusion, no collusion, no obstruction, no obstruction. Then we have — again we have to go through it?” he asked. “This is a pure political witch hunt.”

“We did nothing wrong. And the only thing I did is make our country stronger, give it the numbers like people haven’t seen before,” he advanced. “What we’re doing in this country, financially, with the military, with our veterans — if you look at veterans, we now have Veterans Choice. Nobody has ever done what I’ve done in their first two years.”

“So if I’m guilty of anything, it’s that I’ve been a great president, and the Democrats don’t like it, which is a shame,” President Trump said, concluding his answers to the press, then departing.

Oil Tumbles Most in 4 Months as Trump Urges OPEC to Pump More

Oil prices plummeted by nearly 3.7 percent on April 26 as President Donald Trump called on the Saudi-led Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to increase production.

“Spoke to Saudi Arabia and others about increasing oil flow. All are in agreement,” Trump said in an April 26 tweet.

Brent crude futures, the leading oil price index, dropped some $2.7 to $71.63 a barrel, the largest one-day drop since Dec. 18.

Oil prices have rallied about 40 percent higher this year after OPEC and several allies cut supply by 1.2 million barrels per day, and as sanctions on Venezuela and Iran have reduced output. Prices were still up more than 30 percent this year after the April 26 losses.

On April 25, Brent rose above $75 a barrel for the first time this year after Germany, Poland, and Slovakia suspended imports of Russian crude via a major pipeline due to contamination. Russia, which expects to resume pipeline supply on April 29, said it believed the oil could have been deliberately contaminated.

Since taking office, Trump has repeatedly exhorted the OPEC cartel to lower prices. His comments tend to have a temporary effect on the market, and some traders noted that the recent move made the market ripe for profit-taking.

Rare, 400-Year-Old Bible Stolen From US Library Found and Returned

A Geneva Bible dating to 1615 that was stolen from a Pennsylvania library has been found in the Netherlands and returned to the US, authorities announced at a Thursday news conference.

The Bible, which has survived more than four centuries, was one of more than 300 items allegedly stolen from the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh as part of a 20-year scheme by a former archivist Gregory Priore, 62, and rare books dealer John Schulman, 54, local outlet KDKA reports, both of whom had long worked closely with the library. They have been charged with theft, conspiracy and forgery, among other counts.

Investigators traced the tome to the American Pilgrim Museum in Leiden, which had paid about $1,200 for it. Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala explained that the director of the Leiden museum realized the Bible it had purchased belonged to the Carnegie Library and reached out to the institution. He's "an honest man," Zappala said, according to KDKA.

"I am happy to say it has finally made its way back to its rightful owner here in Pittsburgh," FBI agent Robert Jones said at the conference, according to the Morning Call. Though there are several extant examples of this particular Bible, he noted, "From a history perspective, it is priceless." The Carnegie Library's Bible is similar to one brought over on the Mayflower with the first English Puritan colonists.
