Maybe the measles strain around now is a different strain than that of the past - which was totally benign if your were a child. And usually but more serious if you were grown.

That's why the measles parties, to make sure everyone got it as a child. Permanent immunity if you actually get the disease, as opposed to partial with the vaccine.
