Unless those 2 ships are aircraft carriers, the amount of interaction they could have with the jets is very minimal. Limited primarily to communications, or possibly standby/water rescue &recovery. Hell, the ships might just be observation points. If the jets are over the water though, I don't have many ideas that would be realistic. They probably chose "knife" for a reason though.
