Because the Russkies were poking around in the DNC system, even if it was not how the file make their way to Wikileaks. And because the forensic data doesn't actually prove that it was an inside job. It only proves that the files were on a USB drive at some point. This could indeed have been SR coping them off the server late one evening, or it could have been a Russian hacker snail-mailing them to Wikileaks on a thumbdrive. It would produce the same forensic signature in the timestamps in either case.
