Agreed. Not sure how to fix it though. Obviously we need continuity of government in the event a tragedy recalls a President. I don't think however that the first place loser of any party should be next in line. But who should be?

 

Speaker of the House?

President Pro Tem of the Senate?

Secretary of State or ranking, surviving Cabinet member?

 

All come with long held agendas that they were not elected to enact.

 

Looking to the Military, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs could act as Steward of the Republic until an emergency election could be held, but there are dangers going that route as well.

 

We will be stuck with the status quo until we start electing politicians whose only allegiance is to the Constitution.
