A secret society spends millennia selectively breeding humans to create a godlike being. One that they can control & use to 'better mankind.' A number of things go sideways at the very last minute because chaos. Plan goes haywire, godlike being escapes (((their))) control. Reemerges out of nowhere two years later, supported by the supposed-lumpenproletariat who nobody cared about, and literally takes over the whole damn universe.
That sounds familiar as well.
