A common con-artist and cult-leader trick is to feed people information that they almost, but not quite, understand. No body like to feel stupid; so they convince themselves that they sort-of understand it. This will feel like great revelation and will cause them thank, respect, and look up to the person conning them. For examples, think of all the pseudoscience shills you've seen on here. That channel's choice of name alludes to this tactic.
