I may be dating myself, but I remember when it was commonly accepted in churches that whites are the heirs of Abraham.

It was not until the mid-seventies, when preachers found profit teaching Israel was restored, that this became down-played. Then they found even more profit by befriending the tourism economy there.

There was no one really opposing these things because there was no money in it; because whites commonly flee from controversy (unlike Jews); and because nobody wanted to be responsible for "following the old law" anyway.

And the rest is history.

The true identity of an entire hemisphere of people disappeared overnight.

You are right in so many ways, especially here.

>I would love to be religious, but I can't stomach literal interpretations โ€ฆ

You are right on target. The ancient writings have FAR MORE value now when read in different interpretations - particularly that which is called the "spirit" of the law.

Spirit means breath. The breath of the law is how "the air" of the story affects you and what you make of it (and breathe out).

There is a particular time for such relevance. And we are all living in it right now.

This means of interpretation is what the Snow White / AI thread OP is all about.

Taking ALL NAMES in Scripture back to root terms, makes the PARABLES of ancient stories tell many great things we all need to hear today, because they relate to things going on now all around us.

This is because the same forces of nature and structures of world order make them play out similarly.

>"Give to Ceasar what is Ceasar's. Give to God what is God's."

>We were never supposed to understand thisโ€ฆ

Very simple - a beginning condition and an ending condition.

We live in the time of the latter one now.

>Most people are Christians because they fear going to hell

This is outdated theology, based on training with rule like for a child.

We are now responsible like adults now however, and there is no longer need of fear,

but there is demand for more intelligent responsibility..

The problem is you will be guilt tripped again the very next time you walk back into church.

>Or figure out a way to pay for them yourself.

This is brilliant. Very well put.

If the law lives in you, the world is what keeps having to change instead.

โ€ฆ the world is what keeps having to change. Please expound.

There is a new righteousness we are accountable to now, as men of God rather than as children of God. Christians and church only know the adolescent state. But the adult responsibilities are also taught in Scripture.

It is basically the defense of the law of life (and knowledge of the processes of change inherent therein, ultimately). This knowledge defends man from ever falling into what we are all working against now. But defending it ourselves first is how we learn about it. And new order comes from that, which makes for a different world.
