Beaumont prison on lockdown after thwarted escape plot

TEXAS

A Beaumont prison is on lockdown after corrections officers thwarted an escape attempt, officials said Monday.

After getting word of the suspected plot earlier in the day, staff searched the facility and found materials that could be used to make a dummy along with "other paraphernalia" that could aid in a break-out.

It's not clear how many prisoners were involved in the would-be escape or whether any will face charges as a result.

"This is a testament to the commitment of the team at the Stiles Unit to public safety," said prison director Lorie Davis. "It is that commitment that makes a difference not just today but every day."

There's still an ongoing investigation, but all prisoners have been accounted for, officials said.
