Trump Sues Deutsche Bank and Capital One to Stop Them From Complying With Congressional Subpoenas

President Trump, his family and the Trump Organization Monday sued Deutsche Bank and Capital One to prevent the companies from complying with Congressional subpoenas.

President Trump, his three children, Ivanka, Don Jr., and Eric; and his business filed a federal lawsuit in New York’s Southern District against the banks Monday.

“The subpoenas were issued to harass President Donald J. Trump, to rummage through every aspect of his personal finances, his businesses, and the private information of the President and his family, and to ferret about for any material that might be used to cause him political damage. No grounds exist to establish any purpose other than a political one,” Trump’s attorneys wrote in the complaint filed late Monday.

Trump’s attorneys said the lawsuit is meant to protect Donald Trump, his children and his family business.

“The subpoenas issued to Deutsche Bank and Capital One by Chairpersons Schiff and Waters are unlawful and illegitimate,” the statement read. “They seek information going back decades from anyone with even a tangential connection to the President, including children, minors and spouses. Every citizen should be concerned about this sweeping, lawless, invasion of privacy. We look forward to vindicating our clients’ rights in this matter.”

Deutsche Bank said it will comply with all Congressional subpoenas.

“We remain committed to providing appropriate information to all authorized investigations and will abide by a court order regarding such investigations,” Deutsche Bank said in a statement.

Two weeks ago, Democrat Adam Schiff, the leaker and head of the House Intelligence, and Financial Services Committee Chairwoman Maxine Waters, subpoenaed the Trump Family bank records with Deutsche Bank… because they can.

The rabid House Democrats also subpoenaed Capital One Financial Services for Trump’s financial data.

New York Attorney General Letitia James, who previously vowed to harass Trump, issued a subpoena to Deutsche Bank for documents related Trump’s attempt to buy NFL team Buffalo Bills.

President Trump recently sued Chairman of the House Oversight and Reform Committee Elijah Cummings over his panel’s subpoena to Mazars, Trump’s former accounting firm.

Head of French Patriots Party: Main Goal is France’s Exit From EU

Two French Eurosceptic parties, the Patriots and the Popular Republican Union (UPR), may join forces in the elections to the European Parliament. The head of the Patriots Party, Florian Philippot, has told Sputnik that the party has suggested a “situational alliance” with their potential allies. The UPR is now discussing the proposal.

Florian Philippot explained: "We proposed to the UPR (Union Populaire Républicaine) to make a joint (election) list, the choice is now theirs".

The results of a survey conducted by Ifop-Fiducial on 23 April for the magazine Paris Match, news channel Cnews and the Sud Radio station, show that the popularity of both parties (the Patriots and the Popular Republican Union) is growing. The Patriots would get 2.5% (+ 0.5%) of the vote, while the UPR 1.5% (+ 0.5%) if the elections were held today.

Even though the growing popularity of both parties is encouraging to their leaders, neither of them has yet attained the 5% barrier needed to obtain at least one seat for France. This has been explained by our colleagues from the newspaper Le Figaro: "After a party gets 5% of the votes, the electoral quotient is calculated by dividing the number of votes cast by the total number of seats (79). Then, the total number of votes is divided by the electoral quotient and the number of seats allocated for each party is obtained. This is the so-called ‘d'Hondt method' (méthode d'Hondt). The distribution of seats follows the order in which the names of the candidates appear on the electoral lists".

Israeli envoy calls for criminalizing antisemitism after NYT cartoon

“The time for talking and having a conversation is over."

The only way to stop antisemitism is to criminalize it, Israel’s Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon told reporters in New York on Monday.

“The time for talking and having a conversation is over,” Danon said. “What Israel and the Jewish community around the world demands is action and now."

Danon, speaking on the sidelines of the United Nations Security Council meeting said that those who engage in antisemitism "must be punished, whether it is here at the UN, political leaders, editors, policy pundits, or college professors, it does not matter.

“Antisemitism should have no place in our society," he continued. "Until it becomes criminal, this bigotry will persist. It will fester. It is only a matter of time until it erupts again in violence and bloodshed."

Danon spoke just two days after a shooter, believed to be a white supremacist, killed one Jewish worshiper and wounded three others in the Chabad synagogue in Poway California. Separately, that same weekend, The New York Times published an article widely held to be classically antisemitic. The paper has since apologized. Danon linked the two events and a shooting that occurred at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh in October 2018, in which 11 worshipers were killed.

“From the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh to the Chabad synagogue in Poway California, antisemitism is no longer a fringe bigotry in the US,” Danon said. “Then, as now, all the right people are saying all the right things. They express their sympathies and call for an end to this violence and bigotry.

"It seems that we have learned nothing from the Pittsburgh attack, and we are likely to continue to do nothing following the attack in San Diego,” Danon continued.

He added that since October, members of the United States Congress have openly exposed themselves as antisemites and that the NYT cartoon "could have been taken from the pages of Der Stürmer, the Nazi propaganda paper.

"And yet these actions have gone unpunished," Danon said. "I have not seen the NYT [hold] any one accountable for this horrible cartoon. When you have pictures, cartoons, words, demonstrations, it leads to violence and shootings."
