Surfing legend Sunny Garcia hospitalized
Surf legend Sunny Garcia has been hospitalized in the intensive care unit, the World Surf League tweeted Monday night.
The WSL, however, did not elaborate on Garcia’s condition.
“With heavy hearts we confirm that Sunny Garcia is in the ICU in the hospital,” the tweet said. “Sunny has always been a great champion of surfing, both in and out of the water. Our prayers are with him and his loved ones at this deeply challenging time.”
The 49-year-old Hawaiian-born pro-surfer is a six-time winner of the coveted Triple Crown of Surfing, most recently in 2004, and the 2000 ASP World Champion.

Fort Campbell soldier dies following 'non-combat' incident in Syria
FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (WKRN) - The Department of Defense announced Monday the death of a Fort Campbell soldier in Syria.
Pfc. Michael A. Thomason, 28, of Lincoln Park, Mich., died of “wounds sustained from a non-combat incident” in Kobani, Syria, according to a statement issued late Monday by the Pentagon. He was was supporting Operation Inherent Resolve.
Thomason was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
Inherent Resolve is the U.S.-led coalition battling the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq.
Nine Americans have died while serving in support of Inherent Resolve so far this year, which includes four combat deaths from a suicide bombing in northern Syria in January.
