Five hour breads will be routine at night. Last night was the first. Glacial. If captchas are for every post, and if they will truly filter out shills–which I doubt–seems like breads will need to be about 1/3 shorter. Law of Unintended Consequences.

Among other things.

No, that is a different argument. There are a number of arguments that can be made against CAPTCHAS. Free speech argument is probably the highest and best, IMO. But bread length argument is not insignificant.

I'd like a discussion where anons in favor and against them use those arguments rather than accusatory language or ridicule. But I grow weary to trying to make that point. Time for something else.

>this should be a blast to deal with under a ddos attack.

Hmmm….last night I was on the board for hours and then baked for the first time with CAPTCHA. The entire bake, my normally zippy desktop was incredibly laggy. Just during the bake. Afterwards, it went back to normal. That's just a sample of 1. But it's never happened before except when the board itself was under attack. But nobody else commented on lag. Your comment brought this to mind. I'll have to see what happens next time, etc.
