I was thinking about the STEEL deal with Merkel.

I watched POTUS speech in Pen. He basically said US will tax steel import from EU if EU doesn't give up trade barriers and regulations with US. And I think Q said Merkel has 10 (days) to comply.

I don't think Merkel is able to comply with these requests. Because:

• all EU contries has different regulations (besides common EU reg.) which are absolutely not in line with US regulations (for example my country has GMO ban)

• A new trade deal reqire EU voting, and ALL countries have to be agreed, no exception. (Kind of impossible nowdays.)

• EU has never done anything in 10 days. If something is urgent they decide in 1-2 years about it….

I think POTUS kind of knows how EU works. Therefore I suspect POTUS is playing the 'DACA card' with Merkel. Offering something seems fair and good for both parties knowing EU is just not able to comply with it.

In reality this means US steel will be cheaper so not much of German steel wil be used in US. So domestic steel market will be protected and POTUS will be a good guy who tried to make a deal.
