Nate is in a pickle because physical possession of classified material outside of designated areas is a bad idea. Nate took shit home with him. Nate did a morally just thing in an illegal way. Whistleblower or not, he's caught up in a very bad situation that was very much self inflicted.

I don't want to be (or seem like) a dick, but anyone naive enough to actually believe in "Whistleblower" laws is probably naive enough to think their special needs kid can "manage on their own way away from home". Admittedly, I don't know all the facts. I've had a bit of "overexposure" of people asking for "guidance and prayers" over the years, and sometimes you want to tell folks "You don't need prayers. You need a guidance counselor". Again, I don't have all the facts. Irrespective of all that, I think it's evident that Q is keeping Nate at arm's length.
