You are not "getting it".
Some people pray thinking they can enact a certain outcome. Some people think they can cause themselves to find a new job if they pray for it. These people re the ones you speak of practicing "majick".
However, some of us pray to God, the Father and/or the Son, asking him to help us in time of need. In this manner prayer is of reality need.
Prayers may or may not be answered according to His will not ours. We pray to let HIM do the magic.
