THAT is the CORRECT INTERPRETATION.

The analogy is simple.
In the movie, Daniel looks weak and a latecomer to the martial arts scene.
The OLD GUARD appears to be strong and well organized.
HOWEVER: at the end, Daniel defeats the evil OLD GUARD who was willing to cheat, lie, etc. hoping for victory of evil.
DANIEL represents what WE WANT.
