I can say, and this is likely even when imported to the islands, crane is something of a linear style: as in literally dealing with straight on forwards / backwards footwork. other animal styles may be roundabout (snake) or counteractive (tiger)(maybe eagle dunno about that one), others may rely heavily on modular or syncretic features of several. tldr: crane style in most fighting arts is head on only way out is through.
