I like to think outside the box(expand your thinking) and IMO there are multiple meanings.

In the movie, Daniel looks young and weak(David vs Goliath) and a latecomer to the martial arts scene. The OLD GUARD(Kobra Kai) appears to be stronger, organized, and embedded in there community as the power structure.

Daniel with the help of Mr. Miyaqi defeats the OLD GUARD…the OLD GUARD that cheated, bullied, and dehumanize Daniel thinking they were going to be victorious in the Tournament.
