Ex-Miss Uruguay Found HANGED in Mexican Hotel

The local prosecutor's office is looking into the circumstances surrounding the hanging as a homicide investigation but has yet to determine whether the woman killed herself or was slain by someone.

Responding to an early-morning call on Tuesday, Mexican police found the body of a woman hanged in the bathroom of a hotel room, the local prosecutor's office reported, as quoted by El Universal, a media outlet.

After a preliminary investigation, the prosecutor's office identified the woman as 31-year-old Fatimih Davila, Miss Uruguay 2006, who represented the country at the Miss Universe and Miss World pageants in 2006 and 2008, respectively.

"Initial investigations have established that the woman… arrived in Mexico City on 23 April. An acquaintance helped her move into the above-mentioned hotel ahead of a job interview," the prosecution's statement reads further.

The prosecution says it's studying all possible causes of the death, including homicide and suicide.

Mexico has witnessed a series of deaths of foreign women in the country. In recent months, the authorities have tracked down and eliminated a large number of sex traffickers.

The women are commonly lured to the country by sex trafficking rings after being promised jobs in professions like modelling. However, after being tricked by the offer, they're kidnapped and forced into prostitution.

THE 100: Trump Installs One Hundo Judges On The Federal Bench

President Donald Trump and Senate Republicans are setting historic records for appeals court confirmations.

Trump’s nominees have skewed the circuit courts rightward, and might flip two appellate courts to majority Republican control by the end of 2019.

Despite success at the circuit court level, vacancies on federal trial courts have ballooned, as have the number of courts classified as so-called “judicial emergencies.”

The Senate confirmed President Donald Trump’s 100th judicial nominee Thursday, passing a symbolic threshold meant to signal the GOP’s determined push to staff the federal judiciary with conservative jurists.

As of this writing, the president has appointed 102 judges to the federal bench. That total includes 63 trial judges, 37 appeals judges and two Supreme Court justices.

“Today marks an incredible milestone as the Senate confirmed President Trump’s 100th judicial nominee,” said Carrie Severino, chief counsel of the Judicial Crisis Network. “This is a big win for the country to have judges who fairly apply the law and adhere to the Constitution sitting on our nation’s most prized courts.”

Though Trump and the Senate Republican caucus have processed nominees with stunning proficiency, the administration has not yet overcome left-leaning majorities on many federal appeals courts, while a burgeoning number of trial court vacancies present a daunting challenge.

The Senate reached the 100-judge mark with the confirmation of Rodolfo “Rudy” Armando Ruiz to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida on a 90-8 vote. Ruiz is a state court judge and a member of the Federalist Society, a conservative legal group that advises the White House of judgeships. The confirmations of Raul Manuel Arias-Marxuach to the District of Puerto Rico and Joshua Wolson to the Eastern District of Pennsylvania followed.

With 37 appointments to the circuit courts, Trump and GOP lawmakers have set a record for appellate confirmations. By way of comparison, former President Barack Obama had 18 circuit court appointments at this juncture of his presidency, while former President George W. Bush had 30.

Sen. Josh Hawley: Prejudiced FBI Officials Tried to Overturn Results of a Democratic Election

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO), during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Wednesday, said officials like former FBI agent Peter Strzok tried to overturn the results of a democratic election by launching an investigation into the Trump campaign for Russian collusion.

Hawley read aloud a text from Strzok to his former lover and former FBI lawyer Lisa Page on August 26, 2016: “Just went to the southern Virginia Walmart. I could SMELL the Trump support.”

“Smell is capitalized,” he said. “In my view, you want to know what’s really going on here? You want to know why the counterintelligence investigation really happened? You want to know why we’re all really sitting here today? That’s why — right there,” he said, gesturing to the text of the tweet.

Strzok launched the FBI’s counterintelligence investigation on the Trump campaign. He was found to have texted hundreds of messages to Page, many of which showed enmity towards Trump.

Hawley then went on a lengthy diatribe:

It’s because an unelected bureaucrat — an unelected official in this government who clearly has open disdain if not outright hatred for Trump voters, like the people of my state for instance — ‘I could smell the Trump support’? Then tried to overturn the results of a democratic election, that’s what’s really gone on here. That’s the story.

That’s why we’re here today. I cannot believe that a top official of this government with the kind of power that these people had would exercise their own prejudices, and that’s what this is — it’s open, blatant prejudice — would try to use that and try to overturn a democratic election, and to my mind, that’s the real crisis here, and it is a crisis.

Because if there’s not accountability — if this can go on in the United States of America, then my goodness gracious, we don’t have a democracy anymore. SO I appreciate your leadership Attorney General, I look forward to hearing the results of your investigation, and I look forwad to this committee continuing its constitutional responsibility to find out what is going on here and making sure the will of the people is vindicated and established.

Barr announced during the hearing on Wednesday that he had tasked DOJ staff members to help him review whether the FBI had proper predicate for spying on the Trump campaign in 2016.
