It's not the currency but the people controlling it. Gold and silver are thought of as currency and they can be but they are really just valuable assets that can be easily transported and exchanged. Fiat currencies do a similar thing but need the backing of the state to give them value. Bitcoin isn't even a fiat currency since no government is backing it. It's literally just digital monopoly money that has zero intrinsic value.
