Today the American d-day-flag to see for the first time in Rotterdam. The flag is ceremonially handed over to military defence Minister Ank Bijleveld-Schouten and the American Ambassador Pete Hoekstra in the Kunsthal. There is the flag till Sunday 17 February for public to see.

The American flag flown at the stern of the U.S. Navy ship LCC 60. This ship led on d-day, 6 June 1944, the invasion fleet with the first American troops to the invasion beach Utah Beach. The landings in Normandy were the beginning of the liberation of Western Europe. Commander of the landing craft was the then Lieutenant Howard van der Beek, whose father was born in Netherlands. Van der Beek had the flag in his possession until his death in 2014.

POTUS, as the best Ambassador of Freedom and the American heroes, I hope one day you will visit our country and bring this monumental flag back to were it belongs: to the Land of the free and the home of the brave!
