Why stupid? Because magnets can be created using iron and other materials in a ceramic matrix, that is placed into a strong magnetic field while the ceramic is baked, "freezing" the magnetic field into the magnet. The external strong magnetic field can be created using electricity flowing through a coil.

There are numerous magnetic phenomena that still defy understanding via classical electromagnetics.
Grad students and Ph.D.s can get research grants to do establishment science that confirms and extends what is already believed. No grants are given for experiments that contradict the "received truth". Science pretends to believe the data, not the hypothesis, but the reverse is true. It's a religion.
