It's not necessarily that they were turned. The fact of the matter is that good people were under a system that compelled them in certain ways. If the result of acting like we do and shouting piss and vinegar all over the place … Is to end up mdked or strung up on unfair charges (or for crimes committed by your superiors) - then the whole system becomes one of keep your head in the cubicle and hit the rubber stamp.

Smart people who managed to get higher in that system would make very good notes and put them in places that could be accessed in the event they got brought up on charges for shit their boss told them to do.

The problem is always what comes after, anon. Once you start killing people because you aren't getting your way - you've set a bit of a precedent. Do you have any idea how difficult it was for the U.S. to get the liberated colonies to agree on a vote? It's not as simple as it sounds. Why should I put up with the policies you don't like when I just gutted the last guy who pissed me off?

What issues are worth killing over?

That kind of behavior invites society to test that lower bound, and the problem is that if you let people kill over minor things, you grant them immunity from law in effect - so you are forced into a bit of a scenario where the lowest common denominator forces society to play at their level.

I'm just saying… Before you commit to something, know what you are about to do. You can't stop and say "just joking, let's all be friends and stop fighting" after you have several men looking to avenge their brothers/wives/sisters/children.
