My spouses Dad was a Fireman all his life. He retired with plans to travel with his wife so they took his monthly pension in a way that left no surviving spouse benefits other than health behind.
Little more than a year later he died on Thankgiving Day of liver and pancreatic cancer and the only travel they were able to do was take an Alaskan Cruise shortly before he became really ill. In the pictures of that cruise you see he is yellow as a moon beam. He also busted his butt and took every kind of side job he could while they raised their 5 kids together.
I’m sorry for your loss Anon. I was one of the last to speak to him before he passed. Although he could not reply in any way I know that he heard my words and got comfort in hearing me say I’d take care of his little girl forever.
It sucks watching such good men die such a horrible death. They deserve better, but that’s not my or anyones choice to make.
I know he is in a better place. I know he is.
He loved God!
