Had an idea regarding lift re: Epstein Island 'temple'. My workplace has a single left lift system, which has mechanism within the shaft rather than motor mounted above. The lift may only go down one level, maybe there is a tunnel to another section which may go further down. That way you don't have any obvious external mechanism. No doubt some engineering fag could shed further light.
