Maury de Graffenried Flowers, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Howard Flowers Jr. of Thomasville, Ga., was married at All Saints' Episcopal Church there yesterday to Joseph Vincent Shields Jr., a son of the late Mr. Shields and the late Elizabeth Larus Shields of New York, Old Westbury, L.I., and Richmond. The Rev. James W. Law performed the ceremony.
Elsbeth van Tets was the matron of honor for the bride, who was also attended by her sisters, Fontaine McFadden, Daphne Wood and Taliaferro Crozer. David V. Shields was his brother's best man.
Mrs. Shields, who graduated from the Madeira School, Briarcliff College and the University of Georgia, formerly worked in the special-client services department at Sotheby's in New York. Her father is the founder and chairman emeritus of Flowers Industries, a specialty-food company in Thomasville, and a former Democratic State Senator.
The bridegroom is a founder and the chairman of Shields & Company in New York, a member firm of the New York Stock Exchange. He graduated from Georgetown University. His father was a member of the stock exchange.
