Pilotfag here. You are ALWAYS on your own when piloting an aircraft. The first thing I was taught was this: Aviate. Navigate. Communicate. In that order.

That means fly the damn plane. Once under control, then figure out where you are. Lastly, communicate. The folks on the ground can't help you if you haven't done the first two.

 

Plus, it appears the aircraft wasn't on fire until it slammed into the runway. The CCTV footage shows it porpoising first and then impacting. That's when the fire started. Perhaps they haven't seen that footage yet. But it didn't appear to be on fire. It looked like the pilot was struggling to control the aircraft because the nose was pitching up and down.
