DNC finance chairman steps down
Longtime Democratic National Committee (DNC) finance chairman Henry Muñoz will leave his position after over six years, he told Politico.
Muñoz, the DNC’s first openly gay and first Latino finance chair, will be replaced by Chris Korge as an interim replacement before being elected permanently at the DNC’s August meeting, according to the publication.
Muñoz’s tenure saw the DNC raise more than $600 million, according to Politico. He also co-founded the Latino Victory Project in 2014 with actress Eva Longoria and told the publication that he will continue advocacy and outreach for Latino candidates and fundraising ahead of the 2020 presidential election.
“2020 will be one of the most consequential elections of our lifetime, and I’m energized as ever to keep working with the DNC and Latinx advocates across the country to ensure we soundly defeat Donald Trump and take back state houses from coast to coast," Muñoz said.
“As my own political mentor, I have watched [Muñoz] organize and create paths for the next generation of Latinos,” Longoria said in a statement to Politico. “I have no doubt, as he moves on to his next endeavor, he will continue to help this Latino mobilization movement he has created.”
Korge, Muñoz’s interim replacement, previously served as finance chair for Andrew Gillum’s 2018 gubernatorial campaign. Former DNC chair and ex-Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D), who has known Korge for more than three decades, told the publication “Democrats on all levels across the country will benefit from his leadership.”

Analysis Israel and Hamas Are Bartering, Weapon in Hand. The End Result Could Be a Military Operation
May 06, 2019 1:16 AM
It appears that the leaders of Hamas and Israel are not interested in war at this point in time. But the dynamics of confrontation are working overtime, reminiscent of the days leading to the 2014 Gaza war.

New effort launches to democratically elect the vice president in 2020
There's a national push for voters to elect the U.S. vice presidentseparately from the president.
Vice.run, is a campaign that seeks to create a separate and independent ballot line for the vice president in 2020. The group is trying to collect – from all 50 states – voter signatures and pledges in support of the separate vice president election.
"An independently-elected vice president would give American voters a new level of direct control over who serves in the White House," Vice.run says on its website. "Further, a separately-elected vice president could provide a moderating influence on the partisanship of the president."
The founder of Vice.run David Blake announced on Twitter earlier this month that Utah became the first state to reach the signature pledges goal since launching their website in March.
Traditionally, presidential candidates and their running mates are listed on a ballot together, with voters selecting a joint ticket on election day. However, in the first U.S. elections, the vice president got into office by securing the second-highest number of Electoral College votes. When the 12th amendment was ratified in 1804, it required a distinct Electoral College vote for vice president and thus began the tradition of the joint ticket with the presidential and vice presidential candidates.
ccording to a poll conducted by Vice.run, 53% of registered voters prefer a more democratic approach to the election of the vice president than the current process. Voters can pledge their support online for the state where they are registered to vote.
