Nadler Schedules Vote To Hold Barr In Contempt Of Congress

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler scheduled a vote Monday to hold Attorney General William Barr in contempt of Congress for not giving the committee special counsel Robert Mueller’s full unredacted report. The New York Democrat gave Barr a deadline of 9 a.m. Monday to turn in the full report with no redactions, which many Republicans believe would be dangerous due to the possibly sensitive material, which could be leaked. Nadler has now scheduled the congressional contempt vote for Wednesday, May 8 at 10 a.m.

“Even in redacted form, the Special Counsel’s report offers disturbing evidence and analysis that President Trump engaged in obstruction of justice at the highest levels. Congress must see the full report and underlying evidence to determine how to best move forward with oversight, legislation, and other constitutional responsibilities,” Nadler said in a statement Monday. “The Attorney General’s failure to comply with our subpoena, after extensive accommodation efforts, leaves us no choice but to initiate contempt proceedings in order to enforce the subpoena and access the full, unredacted report. If the Department presents us with a good faith offer for access to the full report and the underlying evidence, I reserve the right to postpone these proceedings,” Nadler continued.

House Judiciary Committee ranking member Doug Collins blasted Nadler in a Monday statement, saying Nadler’s request would require Barr to break the law. “Chairman Nadler knows full subpoena compliance requires Attorney General Barr to break the law. Yet, instead of introducing legislation allowing the attorney general to provide Congress grand jury material, Democrats move to hold him in contempt,” Collins said in a statement Monday. “They know the Justice Department is working to negotiate even as they pursue contempt charges, making their move today illogical and disingenuous. Democrats have launched a proxy war smearing the attorney general when their anger actually lies with the president and the special counsel, who found neither conspiracy nor obstruction,” Collins continued.

Democrats and cable news pundits have said the Mueller report is a cover-up.

Fourteen dead after private jet crashes between Las Vegas and Mexico: media

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - The remains of a plane have been found after it disappeared en route from the U.S. city of Las Vegas to Monterrey in northern Mexico, an official of Mexican state of Coahuila said on Monday, with local media reporting that all 14 on board had died. Mexican newspaper Reforma said the private plane had 11 passengers and three crew members on board.

The wreckage of the plane was found via aerial surveillance some 129 miles (208 km) northwest of the northern city of Monclova in Coahuila, said Fernando Orta of the border state’s emergency services department. Officials had not yet arrived to inspect the site, he added. “The land is rather mountainous… so they’re going to take a while longer to arrive,” Orta said.

FlightAware, an online flight tracking service, said the plane was a Challenger business jet made by Canada’s Bombardier Inc. The company was not immediately available for comment. A photograph published on local television network Milenio showed what it said were the burnt remnants of the plane, broken into pieces, spread over charred earth.

Mexican media reported that the passengers had attended a boxing match between Mexican boxer Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Daniel Jacobs in Las Vegas on Saturday. Names of crew and passengers published in local media and sourced to flight information website fltplan.com, listed only Hispanic surnames. Reuters could not immediately confirm the veracity of the list. A Mexican transport ministry spokesman could not say whether there had been any survivors. Local broadcaster Televisa reported the small twin-engine jet lost contact on Sunday with air traffic controllers sometime after 5:20 p.m. local time (2220 GMT) as the pilot descended to avoid a storm.
