US job openings jump to nearly 7.5 million in March

U.S. employers advertised almost 7.5 million jobs at the end of March, a solid figure that signals hiring will likely remain strong in the months ahead.

The Labor Department said Tuesday that job openings rose 4.8% from the previous month, while the number of people quitting their jobs slipped. There are now 1.2 million more open jobs than there are unemployed Americans, a dynamic that suggests businesses will have to keep raising pay to attract and retain the workers they need.

China Official: ‘China Will Never Give In to Pressure’

China said on Monday that a delegation is still preparing to go to the United States for trade talks, but officials vowed that the Asian nation would not give in to pressure from President Donald Trump.

Donald Trump announced Sunday that tariffs on $200 billion of Chinese goods would more than double, rising to 25 percent from their current 10 percent. He also said the 25-percent tariff would be applied “shortly,” with the remaining $325 billion of goods from China not yet subject to import duties.

Apple, Google remove dating apps FTC said could expose children to predators

Apple and Google this week removed a trio of dating apps after the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) said they could put children at risk of exposure to predators.

Apple's App Store and the Google Play Store removed Meet24, FastMeet, and Meet4U after the FTC warned last week that they could be violating federal children's privacy standards, the agency announced Monday.

Louisiana lawmakers advance 'heartbeat' abortion bill

Louisiana state Senate on Monday advanced a "heartbeat" abortion bill that would ban abortion when a fetal heartbeat is detected, as early as six weeks into pregnancy.

The bill passed 31-5 and now heads to the state's House of Representatives, the Baton Rouge Advocate reported.

The bill will only go into effect if courts uphold a similar law in Mississippi, after state senators added a “trigger” clause that would make the bill dependent on the outcome of legal challenges to that state's heartbeat law.

The provision, which is supported by the office of Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry (R), is an attempt to prevent the state from becoming embroiled in expensive litigation, according to the newspaper.

"We give God the thanks for this victory," state Sen. John Milkovich (D), who introduced the bill, said in a statement. "This is another victory in defense of the lives of the unborn and another blow upon the abortion cartel’s effort to assault the next generation with infanticide.”
