Report says Mrs Jones is concious - confirmed by the reporter? This is a long time to be in the hospital with no improvement - Hospitals have to honor confidentiality so can't say anything if otherwise.
FWIW This sounds like there is more to the story - not saying it is the case here, but there have been cases where family members fought to keep essentially moribund family members alive to ensure their $ benefits continue… :(
