Two factors intervened: Voat came up, which redirected a lot of those frustrated with the anonymous format of 8chan, and the veteran anons began posting designed to show this class of normies that they were no longer in a curated, safe space environment like reddit where people will react to their feelings, shower them with praise for their insights, and otherwise give them the dopamine fix they get from the upvote-driven hive mind of Reddit.

As for the "wasting bread" subject, I think it's enough if individuals avoid over-posting. We are on bread number eight thousand something with 6.4 million posts: the bread doesn't run out, and fresh breads are not the end of the world, as long as they aren't going by TOO fast (this is part of why night shift is my favorite; you can post a lot more casual stuff like porn and memes without buttfucking whoever's stuck baking) like they still sometimes do during primetime.

I personally post quite a lot of it, but I participate in fewer than 10% of breads. I really, really don't think most or even much of the porn is being posted by shills. There's one guy who I think is a bot that posts "Patriots fight!" or "Patriots laugh!" along with a porn picture, and in fact I've gotten a lot of my QR porn from him.
