The Trump administration on Friday moved forward with a proposed rule to make it harder for illegal immigrants to access federally subsidized housing — the latest crackdown by the administration on immigrants who use public assistance.

The rule, proposed by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and posted in the Federal Register, would require that those seeking public housing would be subject to verification of their immigration status. Only families in which every member is either a citizen or a legal resident would qualify for federally subsidized housing. Currently families where at least one person is either a citizen or green card holder can get federal assistance, even if other family members are not.

CONFIRMED: Google Gives Left-Wing Websites Preference Over Conservative Ones, Audit Finds

Google is one of the largest traffic drivers for news websites and, according to the Columbia Journalist Review, its influence is growing as Facebook’s traffic referrals decline.

“But for all the influence Google has in directing attention, we know painfully little about how its algorithm selects and curates news. Which sites does it direct traffic toward? And how does Google’s news curation impact the diversity of information found?” wrote researcher Nicholas Diakopoulos.

He and fellow researcher Daniel Trielli used the Computational Journalism Lab at Northwestern University to audit the search engine’s “Top Stories” to determine what websites received the most help from Google.

The team ran more than 200 search queries of various news topics in November 2017, such as “Colin Kaepernick,” “earthquake,” tax reform,” and “healthcare gov.” The researchers did everything they could to “minimize the potential for result personalization” and ran their queries each minute over a 24-hour period. The result: 6,302 unique links found in Top Stories. The researchers counted “an article impression each time one of those links appears.” (Emphasis original).

“The data shows that just 20 news sources account for more than half of article impressions. The top 20 percent of sources (136 of 678) accounted for 86 percent of article impressions. And the top three accounted for 23 percent: CNN, The New York Times, and The Washington Post. These statistics underscore the degree of concentration of attention to a relatively narrow slice of news sources,” Diakopoulos found.

Behind the Post, which accounted for 5.6% of the impressions for the top 20 sources, was Fox News, with 3%. Fox was the only outlet on the list that could be considered right-leaning.

“Prior research has shown that search engines can affect users’ attitudes, shape opinions, alter perceptions and reinforce stereotypes, as well as affect how voters come to be informed during elections. As such, media diversity is an important aspect to the way that Google—or any news aggregator—curates sources and perspectives,” Diakopoulos wrote.

Measles is a natural cancer killer

Health authorities may want to think twice about eradicating measles: researchers are discovering that the virus can fight cancer, and in one case dissolved a golf ball-sized tumor in just 36 hours.

The virus makes cancer cells join together and explode, explains Mayo Clinic researcher Dr Angela Dispenzieri. It also stimulates the immune system to detect any recurring cancer cells and ‘mops them up’.

Although it’s been recognised for a long time that measles and other viruses are natural cancer fighters—it’s known as virotherapy—the dose seems to be an important factor. Dispenzieri and her Mayo colleagues engineered, or genetically modified, the measles virus strain, and gave it in a dose strong enough to vaccinate 10 million people to a woman with end-stage multiple myeloma.

Virotherapy was a last-resort therapy as the 49-year-old woman had endured every type of chemotherapy and two stem cell transplants without success.

A response was immediate. Within five minutes, the doctors say she developed a splitting headache and a temperature of 105 degrees F. before she started vomiting and shaking. A tumor the size of a golf ball had disappeared inside 36 hours, and all signs of cancer had disappeared from her body within two weeks.

“I think we succeeded because we pushed the dose higher than others have pushed it,” said Mayo researcher Dr Stephen Russell. “The amount of virus that’s in the bloodstream really is the driver of how much gets into the tumors.”

Researchers at University College London agree that virotherapy could be a promising way forward in the fight against cancer. In a study titled ‘Measles to the Rescue’, the researchers say that “virotherapeutic agents are likely to become serious contenders in cancer treatment”, and that the vaccine strain of measles virus holds special hope.

A homegrown Islamic terrorist training camp was discovered in Alabama recently.

The property belongs to terrorist Siraj Wahhaj who was arrested at a camp in New Mexico.

At first glance, it looks like an abandoned dump.

But this plot of land in Macon County, Alabama is described in an FBI search warrant as a “makeshift military-style obstacle course” belonging to a small group of terrorists led by Siraj Wahhaj who owned the property up a long dirt road but just a few miles from downtown Tuskegee.

The property, similar to another compound in New Mexico the group is now linked to where federal prosecutors say Wahhaj and four other suspects were training children to carry out deadly terror attacks on American soil.

FBI Assistant Director for the Counterterrorism Division Michael McGarrity told lawmakers on Capitol Hill there are 850 open domestic terrorism investigations, with 40% racially motivated violent extremism.
