Cain killed abel out of Jelousy & rebellion to God
Cain was a farmer & Abel was a sheperd
when giving God offerings Abel would offer God the first sheep born of his flock (Best offering b/c he was thankful of what he had)
Cain would offer God a small portion of his fruit that (wasnt as good of an offering) to God
So God favored Abel a bit more for his offering & Cain grew resentment for it & let the devil drive evil thoughts into his mind.
In essence its a story on lacking Faith when God has given everything & how greed is bad
