PUTRAJAYA (May 7): Former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak failed again in his bid to remove former federal court judge Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram as the lead prosecutor in his 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) case.

This followed the Court of Appeal today dismissing Najib's appeal to disqualify Sri Ram.

A three-member bench led by Court of Appeal Judge Datuk Zabariah Mohd Yusof ruled that the appeal raised by Najib has no merits.

When delivering the court's unanimous decision, Justice Zabariah agreed with the prosecution that Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah's ruling on March 1, 2019, does not amount to a "decision" under Section 50(1) of the Courts of Judicature Act 1964 and therefore, the matter is not appealable.

KUALA LUMPUR (Apr 25): US President Barack Obama will meet representatives of a range of civil-society groups – including some which have harshly criticised Malaysia's government – when he visits the country this weekend, activists said.

Obama aims to strengthen ties with Muslim-majority Malaysia when he arrives Saturday for a two-night stay, the first visit by a serving US president since 1966.
