WaPo trying to muddy up the meaning of "(((Pizza)))"

A prison gang member was overheard plotting a ‘pizza party’ for a prosecutor. He didn’t mean food.

The talk about pizza parties and timing may have sounded trivial to unaccustomed ears, but law enforcement in Colorado knew to listen closely for the coded subtext in Allen’s talk. He was allegedly a member of a violent white supremacist prison gang called the 211 Crew. In 2013, the gang had shocked the country when a recently paroled member, posing as a pizza delivery man, killed a Colorado prison official.

As the deputy listened in, Allen reportedly ranted about how the county’s district attorney, Michael Rourke, was overcharging him. Citing recently released court documents, the Tribune reports Allen allegedly boasted he was planning a pizza party for Rourke. Cryptically, he said it would happen at 2:11 a.m.

“I’m going to make sure something happens,” Allen told his fellow inmate, as the deputy listened in. “I’m going to make sure I have a pizza delivered to him. He’s going to get that f—— pizza.”

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7022665/Jack-Ma-urges-Alibaba-employees-partners-sex-marathons-day-group-wedding.html

Jack Ma, founder and chairman of online marketplace Alibaba, has sparked criticism after advising his newlywed employees to have sex six times in six days.

Ma, also China's richest man, was speaking at his company's mass wedding which takes place every year on 'Ali Day' on May 10 at the company's headquarters in Hangzhou, east China.

'At work, we emphasize the spirit of 996. In life, we should follow 669,' Ma said. His remarks were a wordplay on the firm's controversial 996 work schedule, which expects staff to submit to 12-hour shifts between 9am and 9pm during a six-day week.

'What is 669? Six days, six times, with duration being the key,' Ma said to the 102 couples dressed in wedding dresses and suits at the ceremony. In Chinese, the word 'nine' is a homophone with the word for 'long'.

AFRL achieves “shocking” materials technology breakthrough

https://www.af.mil/News/Article-Display/Article/1842776/afrl-achieves-shocking-materials-technology-breakthrough/

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio (AFNS) –

The Air Force Research Laboratory, along with research partners at Los Alamos National Laboratory, Washington, are working to change the shape of materials technology with a breakthrough development that could open up a new range of possibilities for the military and beyond.

Through an Air Force Office of Scientific Research-funded basic research effort, the collaborative team developed a 3-D printed polymer-based foam structure that responds to the force of a shock wave to act as a one-way switch, a long sought-after goal in shock research.

According to Dr. Jonathan Spowart, AFRL senior materials research engineer, this novel material configuration, although in the early stages of development, has the potential to be scaled up in order to be used in different ways for a variety of applications, including for the protection of structures.

Spowart describes the material as a foam-like structure that contains a series of specifically-engineered tiny holes that determine the overall behavioral characteristics. Over a period of months, AFRL experts used computer modeling to run trials to determine the most effective hole geometries to achieve the desired material response. When they would arrive at a promising configuration, Spowart says the team would print a small test article, a flat plate not much bigger than a pencil eraser. With the help of Los Alamos National Laboratory, working on-site at the Dynamic Compression Sector user facility at Argonne National Laboratory, Washington, they would then conduct tests and image the specimen using X-rays to determine performance.

From there, the AFRL team would review results and fine-tune the material configuration to further refine the product through additional modeling and testing. Spowart described the end product as containing a series of hollow cones. When these cones encounter a shock wave, they collapse inward, forming jet protrusions that project from the opposite side. These jets localize the shock wave energy, which is the origin of the material’s unique directional behavior.

Spowart says this effort represents a significant breakthrough in materials engineering. He attributes this success to the collaboration, communication and expertise of the teams at AFRL, Los Alamos, and Argonne National Laboratory, as well as the basic research funding from AFOSR.

“The materials technology came from AFRL,” he said, crediting the modeling and materials expertise of the project team. “The testing facilities and test methodology came from Los Alamos. So when you put the two things together, you get a really good team.”

He adds that the remarkable test imaging provided by Argonne National Laboratory was crucial in proving out the concept. He explained that the laboratory’s Advanced Photon Source synchrotron is a unique piece of equipment that fires a very powerful and concentrated X-ray beam at the test article, allowing frame-by-frame imaging of a shock wave penetrating the specimen, all of which occurs within a few nanoseconds.

“This new imaging capability, together with the new manufacturing technology and computer simulations, allowed the team to obtain images and evaluate concepts in ways that were well beyond reach just a few years ago,” said Dr. Christopher Neel, AFRL Senior Mechanical Engineer.

“The Dynamic Compression Sector is a unique facility that enables in-situ imaging of dynamic events giving us unprecedented information of the microstructural effects on dynamic behavior,” added Brittany Branch, Los Alamos National Laboratory scientist, who led the dynamic experiments. “Traditional shock compression diagnostics would not elucidate the localization phenomena that is occurring during shock compression. We would see a difference in shock velocity with traditional techniques, but not understand why. These experiments were very exciting, since we demonstrated a shock diode for the first time.”

Spowart said the team plans to publish their findings and work toward transitioning the technology for further maturation and integration into existing systems, where he believes this technology has tremendous potential. “We are very excited about this effort and the teamwork that made it possible. This is a great example of what basic research can do to strengthen our capabilities.”

Decision coming tomorrow

Judge: I See No Reason To Delay A Decision On Congress Receiving Trump's Financial Records

https://townhall.com/tipsheet/bethbaumann/2019/05/12/heres-when-a-judge-is-expected-to-rule-on-trumps-taxes-being-released-to-congressional-committee-n2546215

A judge for the United States District Court in Washington, D.C. is expected to decide whether or not the House Committee on Oversight and Reform is entitled to President Donald Trump's taxes. The other question is if Mazars is legally allowed to hand over Trump's financial records. Judge Amit Mehta said he would make his decision on May 14th.

"The sole question before the court – Is the House Oversight Committee's issuance of a subpoena to Mazars USA LLP for financial records of President Donald J. Trump and various associated entities a valid exercise of legislative power? – is fully briefed, and the court can discern no benefit from an additional round of legal arguments," Mehta wrote in his decision. "Nor is there an obvious need to delay ruling on the merits to allow for development of the factual record."

The Trump team and the House Oversight Committee have until Monday to object to his decision to fast track a decision.

The House Oversight Committee issued their subpoena in mid-April after hearing from Trump's former personal attorney, Michael Cohen. During the meeting, Cohen told lawmakers Trump's accountants frequently inflated assets or omitted liabilities in order to avoid paying taxes.

Once the subpoena was issued to Mazars, Trump filed a lawsuit agains Mazars and the Committee to prevent the records from being disclosed.

The Trump family filed a similar lawsuit against Deutsche Bank and Capital One after the House Intelligence and Financial Services Committees subpoenaed the financial institutions for obtain financial records.

Trump's team has continually said these types of subpoenas are Democrats' latest fishing expedition and "have no legitimate or lawful purpose."
