China strikes back at Trump's new tariffs, targeting $60 billion in US exports

Beijing has retaliated against Washington’s recent tariffs by imposing export levies targeting $60 billion worth of US goods, effective June 1, China’s Ministry of Finance announced on Monday.

The tariff hike of up to 25 percent will affect more than 5,000 items imported from the US to China.

The step comes in response to the latest hike of export duties the Trump administration implemented on billions of dollars worth of Chinese products. Last week, the White House increased American tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese goods to 25 percent from 10 percent, previously.

On Tuesday Chris Wray told the Senate Appropriations Committee that Bill Barr’s use of the word “spying” to describe the spying on the Trump campaign and administration was “not the term I would use.

WINNING: Pentagon Approves $1.5 Billion Transfer For Trump’s Border Wall (VIDEO)

The Pentagon has approved a plan to shift $1.5 billion for Trump’s border wall.

Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan said that he “authorized the transfer of $1.5 billion toward the construction of more than 80 miles of border barrier

In March, Shanahan approved a transfer of $1 billion to help build 60 miles of border wall.

The total of $2.5 billion of relocated Defense Department funds is in response to President Trump’s declaration of a ‘national emergency’ at the southern border.

Shanahan said that the Pentagon is “fully engaging” in fixing the crisis at the border.

Shanahan said that the more than 4,000 military troops that are stationed on the southern border will not “leave until the border is secure.”

The Pentagon is expected to shift another $3.6 billion from military construction to be used for building the wall, but those plans have not been confirmed.

Justices Unanimously Overturn Conviction of Arthur Andersen

WASHINGTON, May 31 - With a brief, pointed and unanimous opinion, the Supreme Court on Tuesday overturned Arthur Andersen's conviction for shredding Enron accounting documents as that company was collapsing in one of the nation's biggest corporate scandals.

The court held that the trial judge's instructions to the jury failed to require the necessary proof that Andersen knew its actions were wrong.

But the decision represents little more than a Pyrrhic victory for Andersen, which lost its clients after being indicted on obstruction of justice charges and has no chance of returning as a viable enterprise. The accounting firm has shrunk from 28,000 employees in the United States to a skeleton crew of 200, who are attending to the final details of closing down the partnership. [Page C1.] In its ruling, legal experts said, the Supreme Court did not ultimately settle the issue of whether Andersen acted with criminal intent when it allowed many of Enron's accounting papers to be destroyed. But it made clear that prosecutors went too far by pressing District Judge Melinda Harmon in Houston to set such a low hurdle for the jury to reach a guilty verdict in the case in 2002.

Le Pen urges Macron to follow Charles de Gaulle’s example and resign if she gets more votes in the EU elections

Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron vowed to spare no effort to prevent Marine Le Pen’s National Rally party from grabbing more seats in the European Parliament elections.

And now Marine Le Pen has issued an “ultimatum” to Mr Macron regarding upcoming elections to the European Parliament, citing the legacy of General Charles de Gaulle.

According to Le Pen, the elections to the European Parliament constitute a confidence vote in Macron, and should he lose this “vote of confidence”, he will have to follow the example of General de Gaulle and step down.

“We need to be consistent. Macron is a party leader. He puts all his weight in the balance. These European elections therefore become a referendum against Macron. In these circumstances, he must do as General de Gaulle: if he loses, then he will have to leave”, the politician told the TV channel LCI.

De Gaulle left the post of the French president in April 1969 after his proposed reform of the Senate and local governments had failed to gain popular approval during the nationwide referendum.

Le Pen also accused the French president of ignoring millions of citizens and even “fighting against them”.

Earlier, Parisien newspaper notes, French President Emmanuel Macron promised to do everything in his power to prevent Marine Le Pen’s party from celebrating success in the EU Parliament elections.

A recent Ipsos poll showed that National Rally (RN) is expected to outstrip French President Emmanuel Macron’s La Republique En Marche in the upcoming European Parliament elections, with 22 percent of the vote.
