Facebook Shuts Down Pro-Populist Italian Pages Before EU Elections

 

Facebook has shut down 23 major populist Italian pages with 2.5 million followers just two weeks before the European elections.

According to Italian media, the majority of the pages supported the populist parties La Lega (The League) and the 5-Star Movement (M5S) — who currently govern Italy in a temporary coalition.

 

Facebook has justified its dramatic move by claiming that the sites shared fake news, so-called “hate speech”, and “divisive content” regarding immigrants, vaccines, and Jewish people.

Tories Sink to FIFTH PLACE in EU Election Polls, Farage’s Brexit Party Dominates

 

The Conservative Party under Theresa May has sunk to fifth place in EU Parliament election polls, behind Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party, Labour, the Liberal Democrats, and even the Green Party.

The Tory collapse has been stunning, with a party that has billed itself as “the natural party of government”, and claims to be the longest-lived active political party in the world now polling at just 10 per cent, according to a new YouGov survey.

 

The weeks-old Brexit Party led by Nigel Farage, meanwhile, is dominating the race on 34 per cent — more than the Tories with their 10 per cent, the opposition Labour party with 16 per cent, and the anti-Brexit Change UK (CUK) party combined.

Desperation Tactics: Guardian Pushes Tony Blair Article Begging Voters to Stop Farage

 

Blair, the unpopular former Labour premier voted as the country’s “Worst Briton” even during his heyday, begged, “If you care about what the Brexiters are doing to our country, then vote on 23 May” in his Guardian article, titled ‘Farage cannot be allowed to dictate Britain’s future. He must be thwarted’.

 

The 66-year-old urged readers to consider voting for “unequivocal remain parties – [the] Liberal Democrats, Change UK, Greens, SNP [Scottish National Party] and Plaid Cymru” before recommending Labour — although he did claim he would be doing so himself, and that, despite the party’s “equivocation” on Brexit, he believed politicians would ultimately count Labour votes as anti-Brexit votes in an imaginary “ledger”.

 

“All that matters is that on 24 May, Nigel Farage and his allies on the far right of the Conservative party cannot claim they speak for Britain” he pleaded, in seeming desperation, as European Parliament election polls point to Farage’s Brexit Party claiming more votes than Labour and the Tories combined.

Yair Netanyahu to Germany: Stop Funding Left-Wing NGOs That Seek Israel’s Destruction

 

Germany’s foreign ministry, which recently celebrated Iran’s 1979 Islamic revolution, issued a statement on Saturday marking the 70th anniversary of Israel’s admittance to the UN. The statement said Germany’s “Federal Government would like to take this 70th anniversary as an opportunity to reiterate the fact that Germany stands at Israel’s side in the UN, too.”

 

Foreign Minister Heiko Maas was quoted as saying that Israel’s “security and right to exist must never be called into question by anyone anywhere.”

The top diplomat went on to say that Germany will always “act as a friend of Israel” and oppose “any unfair treatment of Israel in the UN.”

 

Yair Netanyahu took Maas to task over the statement, blasting Berlin’s funding of anti-Israel organizations.

 

“It will be nice if you stop interfering in our internal business and stop funding hundreds of radical left-wing NGOs in Israel that seek its destruction. Use the hundreds of millions of € you use for this to fund hospitals, schools and churches in Germany!” he tweeted.

Commerce bans Chinese firms from exporting sensitive US technology

 

The department said it is placing the six companies on its banned “Entities List," alongside one Pakistani company and five people from the United Arab Emirates.

 

The companies and people will no longer be export "sensitive" U.S. technologies.

 

Four of the Chinese firms are being accused of attempting to procure commodities from the U.S. to support Iran's weapons of mass destruction and military programs, a violation of U.S. export rules.

 

And the other two Chinese companies allegedly helped facilitate the delivery of controlled technology to groups affiliated with China's armed forces, according to the Commerce Department.
