ALASKA — The Coast Guard, partner agencies and good Samaritans were responding to a report of at least two downed aircraft in the vicinity of George Inlet near Ketchikan, Alaska Monday.
Coast Guard Sector Juneau Command Center watchstanders launched a MH-60 U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Sitka helicopter and two 45 foot response boats from Station Ketchikan.
The airplanes are believed to be float-planes which taxi in the area.
“Ten people are accounted for but their conditions are unknown,” the Coast Guard said.
At least six more people are possibly missing.
“We are currently unaware of the circumstances of why the aircraft went down, Coast Guard Alaska said in a statement. “The amount of people aboard the aircrafts is unconfirmed at this time. This is a developing case.”
