Built my 4L60e up to hold a nice stack of poneys in the 750 range.. shifts quick and just loves life.

I have 2 i have built. One w the beast shell and let me remember what i did w that one.. both got 5 pinion gears and I bought a remanded lifetime warranty valve body for both to not have issues all w sonnax updates. The sonnax shell has a machined collar that fits a Torrington and the beast didnt have that particular bearing as torrington, but 1st had raptor bullshit in it.. had sonnax all billet servos in the 2nd had (both fully rotarized, w increased vanes in pump, oh man you name it. Second one though, increased clutch packs w extra thick outter borg warner clutch. I think it had .72 clearance IIRC.. so it shifts right away, lil time to freewheel/wear/heat.

 

People think really โ€œbuiltโ€ trannies are going to be crazy or need a big engine. It is literally valving, maybe extra clutches, an aftermarket trans cooler w fan and thermostat have save vehicles so far. If one thing you can do to save ANY automatic is to hook an aftermarket cooler inline โ€œafterโ€ factor cooler hose. And get a new radiator every 150k if you have a unit w antifreeze and coolant.. or just the trans cooler if not. It collects debris and is bad for your tran.

 

I love rebuilding stuff. Any of you might be able to do it, i hadnt tried one till I just did it. Second came on because a few โ€œraptorโ€ parts failed and at 3k the inside of my trans ate some hard parts and it had to come apart. That time was easier and i planned on heading out of town right after it was to be done. First 500miles was going to see my buddy harvesting fresh water prawn at his farm. Bout 100k on her now.
