China = nation of producers, savers, lenders

USA = nation of consumers, spenders, debtors

China is in the superior position. The trade war hurts USA more than China. China can enjoy the fruits of its labor instead of subsidizing America at its own expense.

America must save more and spend less, use savings to re-capitalize, produce more and consume less.

It took decades to dig the hole we are in. It might take a decade to recover if the USA becomes united under strong leadership, such as when it sent a man to the moon. But Trump's strategy of a trade war with China is like shock therapy, so sudden and drastic it could kill the patient. Tariffs are meant to encourage re-capitalization of American industry but industry cannot be rebuilt overnight. Factories, supply chains, trained workers, etc., take years to develop. See how long it is going to take to simply build a wall on our border. Much better would be to devalue the dollar gradually, making Chinese goods more expensive but at the same time making American exported goods cheaper. Dollar devaluation is going to happen anyway as the dollar loses its world reserve status.

Trump says he is going to buy American agricultural production no longer purchased by China and give it away to poor countries. This will drive us deeper into debt and the poor countries will turn around and sell the food to China for less than China currently pays for it because they probably need money more than food. In other words, we'll be going into greater debt to subsidize China. This is not the way out of the hole we are in.
