(CNSNews.com) - The New York Times reports that Attorney General William Barr has assigned John Durham, the United States Attorney in Connecticut (and a Trump appointee) to look into the origins of the FBI's Trump-Russia investigation.
According to the report, Durham "has a history of serving as a special prosecutor investigating potential wrongdoing among national security officials."
Durham's investigation of the investigators is the third ongoing look at what spurred the FBI to get a FISA warrant on Carter Page, a Trump campaign volunteer who was never accused of a crime.

Felicity Huffman Pleads Guilty in College Admissions Scheme
BOSTON—“Desperate Housewives” star Felicity Huffman pleaded guilty Monday, May 13, in the college admissions bribery scheme, the biggest name to do so in a scandal that has exposed the lengths to which some wealthy parents will go to get their children into top universities.
The Emmy-winning actress, 56, could face prison time after she admitted to participating in the nationwide scam, in which authorities say parents bribed coaches, rigged entrance exams or both to game the admissions system.
Huffman pleaded guilty in federal court to paying an admissions consultant $15,000 to have a proctor correct her older daughter’s answers on the SAT. She also considered going through with the plan for her younger daughter before ultimately deciding not to, authorities say.

Houthi aircraft allegedly bomb Saudi oil tanks and fields near Red Sea
BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:40 P.M.) – The Houthi forces claimed on Tuesday that their unmanned aerial vehicles bombed Saudi oil tanks and fields in the city of Yanbu along the Red Sea coast.
The Houthi forces also claimed to have bombed several vital Saudi installations inside the Gulf kingdom; however, they did not name the allegedly targeted sites.
This large-scale Houthi attack in Saudi Arabia comes just a day after four oil tankers were allegedly ‘sabotaged’ off the coast of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The U.S. has accused Iran and its proxies of carrying out an attack on these oil tankers near the UAE’s Fujairah Port.
Iran has denied these allegations and warned against making these false claims.

Sweden reopens rape case against WikiLeaks’ Julian Assange
Sweden has reopened an investigation into a rape allegation against WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, complicating U.S. efforts to extradite him.
Swedish prosecutor Marie Persson said Monday “a new questioning of Assange is required” and there is “still probable cause to suspect that Assange committed rape.”
The alleged victim requested the reopening of the investigation.

Iran bans men from looking at women during Ramadan
Iran has ordered its men to stop looking at women during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
Along with banning men from looking at women, the Iranian government also announced bans on eating in public, and playing music in cars, as part of a new social crackdown, The Telegraph reported Saturday.
“My personal advice to women is to respect the hijab even more than before and gentlemen must avoid looking directly at female passersby,” Gholam- Hossein Esmaili, a judiciary spokesperson said.
“Anyone ignoring these instructions during the Ramadan will be committing an offense and should expect some punishment from the law enforcement units.”
Those who break the rules will be punished, from fines to arrest and imprisonment, depending on the crime.

“How does the newspaper know what it knows?” The answer to this question is likely to surprise some newspaper readers: “The main source of information is stories from news agencies. The almost anonymously operating news agencies are in a way the key to world events. So what are the names of these agencies, how do they work and who finances them? To judge how well one is informed about events in East and West, one should know the answers to these questions.” (Höhne 1977, p. 11)
A Swiss media researcher points out:
“The news agencies are the most important suppliers of material to mass media. No daily media outlet can manage without them. () So the news agencies influence our image of the world; above all, we get to know what they have selected.” (Blum 1995, p. 9)
In view of their essential importance, it is all the more astonishing that these agencies are hardly known to the public:
“A large part of society is unaware that news agencies exist at all … In fact, they play an enormously important role in the media market. But despite this great importance, little attention has been paid to them in the past.” (Schulten-Jaspers 2013, p. 13)
Even the head of a news agency noted:
“There is something strange about news agencies. They are little known to the public. Unlike a newspaper, their activity is not so much in the spotlight, yet they can always be found at the source of the story.” (Segbers 2007, p. 9)

So what are the names of these agencies that are “always at the source of the story”? There are now only three global agencies left:
The American Associated Press (AP) with over 4000 employees worldwide. The AP belongs to US media companies and has its main editorial office in New York. AP news is used by around 12,000 international media outlets, reaching more than half of the world’s population every day.
The quasi-governmental French Agence France-Presse (AFP) based in Paris and with around 4000 employees. The AFP sends over 3000 stories and photos every day to media all over the world.
The British agency Reuters in London, which is privately owned and employs just over 3000 people. Reuters was acquired in 2008 by Canadian media entrepreneur Thomson – one of the 25 richest people in the world – and merged into Thomson Reuters, headquartered in New York.
In addition, many countries run their own news agencies. However, when it comes to international news, these usually rely on the three global agencies and simply copy and translate their reports.

During an interview with Jake Tapper of CNN’s “State of the Union,” Harris vowed to use the executive power to remove licenses from gun dealers “who fail to follow the law,” if she becomes president.

Fort Bragg air assault school announces closure
The DeGlopper Air Assault School on Fort Bragg is shutting down, officials announced through the school’s Facebook page Friday.
“The decision to close the school involves funding and the reduction of borrowed military manpower on Fort Bragg,” the Facebook pages states. “We are honored and privileged to have trained some of the most professional and lethal soldiers in the U.S. Army.”
A spokesman for the 18th Airborne Corps, which the school falls under, said the decision was made this week by Lt. Gen. Paul LaCamera, commander of the 18th Airborne Corps.
A page for the school on Fort Bragg’s website states its purpose has been to “train soldiers in the conduct of air assault operations, sling load operations, rappelling operations from an aircraft and through mental and physical training to develop their leadership, self-confidence and aggressive spirit.”
Officials recommended those wanting to attend air assault school consider the Sabalauski Air Assault School at Fort Campbell, Kentucky; the Warrior Training Center at Fort Benning, Georgia; or the Light Fighter School at Fort Drum, New York.

Ramadan Rage 2019: Jihadis Kill 165, Wound 145 In First Week
Islamic terrorists, mainly the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL), carried out more than 30 attacks in over ten countries during the first week of the ongoing holy month of Ramadan, killing at least 166 people and injuring 155 others, a Breitbart News count shows.
That means, so far, jihadis have killed an average of 24 people and injured 22 others each day during the first week of the holy month.
In 2019, Ramadan, a time when Islamic extremists believe Allah doubly rewards martyrdom and jihad, began at sunset on May 5 and is expected to last through sundown on June 4.
Breitbart News’ count excludes attacks that took place on May 5. This week, the Ramadan death toll covers 33 incidents that took place in ten countries between May 6 and 12: Afghanistan, Benin, Burkina Faso, Iraq, Pakistan, Kenya, Somalia, Libya, Mali, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Syria.

Stabbings and confrontations by hundreds of violent Africans in Portuguese seaside
Multiple social media videos have emerged after hostile confrontations between 500 hundred Africans led to a stabbing of a young man in the beach of Tamariz, on the very posh area of Cascais, in the Lisbon region.
The young man was stabbed in the abdomen and then transported to the hospital. A second individual also had to be hospitalized but without injuries, Defend Europa reports.
According to sources, the confrontations are due to “misunderstandings” between rival “groups” of residents of Quinta do Mocho and Amador, highly Africanized areas of the Lisbon suburban areas.
It’s not the first time such confrontations, stabbings and even robberies between dozens or hundreds of Africans happen in these beach areas of the Cascais rail line, known for being a very posh, sophisticated and tourist friendly area.
These sort of attacks have a history dating back for almost 15 years, becoming more and more common in the areas where there is a black majority in the country, as Portugal opened up its borders to people from its former African colonies where there is endemic crime and not an enforced rule of law, having the same results of lawlessness in their host country.
This January, violent African rioters destroyed property in worth of thousands of euros. Portugal is a heavily reliable country on its tourism industry, and while it’s beaches start to resemble the ones in Brazil, there might be problems ahead if the country does not resolve this low-security situation.

Indictment: As anthrax, bomb threats surfaced in Connecticut, suspected white supremacist also mailed President Trump a death threat
A Connecticut man with claimed ties to a white supremacist group was accused of sending more than a dozen threats last September that targeted federal judges, mental health facilities and minority groups in Connecticut, as well as a threat to kill President Donald Trump, a newly unsealed indictment shows.
Gary Joseph Gravelle, 51, who was charged with similar crimes in 2010 under the name Roland Prejean, faces 16 counts associated with the menacing messages, including threats against the president, after he was indicted last week by a grand jury in New Haven, federal court records show.
According to the indictment, Gravelle first started sending threatening emails on the evening of Sept. 4, beginning with a bomb threat to mental health facility in New Haven.

Monsanto ‘Compiled Dossier’ on Political Opponents May 13th, 2019
French officials are investigating after revelations that agro-chemicals firm Monsanto compiled a potentially illegal file on critics on chemicals and genetically modified crops.
The document was made by a PR agency working for Monsanto, which makes the controversial weed killer glyphosate.
Marketed as Roundup by Monsanto, the weed killer has come under fire in France with calls to ban it.
Its parent company Bayer has apologised over Monsanto’s dossier.
“This is not the way Bayer seeks dialogue with society and stakeholders,” Bayer said, adding that there was no indication of illegal activity.
The list of some 200 people included politicians, journalists and scientists who had raised concerns about Monsanto’s activities, including French MEPs and the environment minister at the time, Ségolène Royal.
It was compiled in 2016, ahead of a vote in late 2017 on whether to approve the use of glyphosate in the European Union for the next five years.
That vote passed. Glyphosate has been classified as a “probable carcinogen” by the World Health Organization, but the US Environmental Protection Agency says it is unlikely to cause cancer in humans, and the European Chemicals Agency said there was not enough evidence to label it as carcinogenic.
France, however, voted against approval, and has since declared it will ban the chemical in the coming years.

For the municipalities investigating and suing oil companies, the main motivation is clear: money. Enough pressure on oil companies could yield settlements of hundreds of millions of dollars, or maybe even a general fund modeled after the Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement worth hundreds of billions of dollars. The best part? They are able to outsource the actual legal work for free, courtesy of Michael Bloomberg and a few foreign-funded organizations. In addition to utilizing this “law enforcement for rent,” former New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman also kept in communication about “company specific climate information” with billionaire Tom Steyer and the Rockefeller Family Fund, the latter of which also paid journalists to write stories and op-eds and funded a cherry-picked and error-laden study against ExxonMobil. Though it also already hired a Bloomberg-funded special assistant attorney general, the DC Office of the Attorney General (OAG) announced that to help it investigate Exxon it was hiring extra help on an unusual contingency-fee basis which allows its payout to go instead to a financing institution—say, an interested foundation.
Starting a lawsuit against much-maligned oil companies is also a way to make a costless political statement, providing the perfect cover for rent seeking. For a solidly Democratic municipality, this is a rare political win-win. With attorneys, curated data, media outreach and management provided by wealthy donors and potentially millions of dollars to be gained if they can reach a settlement, how could municipalities (at least those that do not let pesky ethics get in the way like Virginia) not want to join in? As Mike Layton, the Toronto City Councilor who proposed that his city join the burgeoning North American oil lawsuit movement, explained:
I think what you’ll find is as it gains popularity, more and more municipalities are saying, “Wait a second, we have hundreds of millions in infrastructure costs that we see coming. What are we going to do to fund those?” Rather than just assume that we’re going to have to cover it out of the rate base or the tax base or that the federal government will come to the rescue, that we should move ahead and join forces on a similar lawsuit.
